1 billion worldwide

I'm looking forward to this, but you are HIGH if you think this hits a billion. IF it does, it will be because somehow this film ends up an indispensable key to the end of Avengers:Endgame.

I think Marvel has made a calculation on a couple of MCU story elements that will bring in audiences.

Those curious about Coulson.
Those curious about SHIELD.
Those curious about Nick fury and the two above MCU elements.

Those curious as to how Captain marvel fits within the larger MCU.
Those curious as to how this ties into Avengers:Endgame.

Just Marvel fans alone could get this to $800 Million. Is that enough to get CM to $850 Million or $1 Billion? I think not but CM doesn't have to rely solely on the shoulders of a character most know absolutely nothing about.

Story wise and narrative wise CM looks like it is in good shape as a Marvel branded movie.

I got it pegged right in this neighborhood.

Being the lead-in to Avengers #4 is going to help a lot.

It won't get there. And it doesn't have to. Marvel's future doesn't depend on CM reaching that milestone.

Seeing as how Marvel is banking on Captain Marvel being one of the key characters that they are transitioning to from the legacy characters (Iron Man, Capt. Rogers, Thor), I'm pretty confident they are not banking on the first film having to be a $1 Billion dollar introduction on the initial release.

This will have to be a slow build but from a much higher plateau than other films. $750 M is probably the expected floor and gives CM a solid reception. Unless some knucklehead studio Exec guaranteed the sky is the limit. Yeah, right.

Here are the Marvel (Sony/Fox/BV/Col) movies comic-up:

Captain Marvel...……………......BV......3/8/19
Avengers: Endgame...…….....BV.....4/26/19
Dark Phoenix...………...…….....Fox.....6/7/19
Spider-Man: Far from Home..Sony….7/5/19
New Mutants..................…..Fox.....8/2/19
Gambit..............................Fox.....3/13/20
U Marvel Movie (May 2020)..BV...….5/1/20
U Fox/Marvel Film II (2020)..Fox....6/26/20
Sony/Marvel Morbius…………...Col.....7/31/20
U Fox/Marvel Film III (2020)..Fox....10/2/20
U Sony/Marvel Sequel (2020)..Col...10/2/20
U Marvel Movie (Nov 2020)…...BV....11/6/20
U Marvel II (2021)…......………..BV.....2/12/21

That pretty much suggests Marvel is focusing on seeing how Fox films fares while they bolster their MCU films until a year after Avengers:Endgame with an untitled release. Marvel is not betting the Mouse House on Captain Marvel but they are smartly laying the groundwork by apparently building around a new team of heroes with CM being just one of them. (Dr. Strange, Black Panther on the street level (sorry Doctor) and more cosmic celestial characters for CM to play with).
