Great source material but screenplay was poor

Childhood's End was a great novel, and a short one. But the screenplay was padded out with all sorts of irrelevant nonsense that didn't add anything and often was either abandoned or just not properly explained, and it did a p**s poor job of explaining what the overmind really was and what was actually happening to the children - ie the core of the story! Didn't do a great job of explaining the overlords appearance either.

On the plus side, Charles Dance made an excellent Karellen.

Agreed. This garbage missed the entire point of the novel.

Man, there was some great unintentional comedy in this. Like when Jennifer's dad is trying to convince the Mayor of New Athens not to blow it up and he goes "Martin Luther King Jr! Nelson Mandela! We keep fighting!" 

It just seemed a little incongruous to me that a white guy was using leaders of the civil rights and anti-Apartheid movements as if they were at all relevant to his situation.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."
