They need to have Alec...

Be with someone outside the circle. A mundane, maybe? Of course it won't last (the mundane will probably die). But I think it would develop his character, and have it evolve, somehow. Because lately, this thing with Magnus, is going nowhere. And it needs to breath a little. And be put to rest, for now.

Out of all the characters, Alec has probably been granted the most onscreen development time - even more than Clary in a lot of ways, and definitely more than Jace.

The problem isn't the story he's getting it's the obvious and grating limitations of the actor who plays him.

reply

Sorry...but Alec and Magnus are together...more or less through all 6 books...Alec never looks or is interested in anyone else..

reply

They can do their own thing. It's not like TV shows and movies follow books, they're inspired by, to the letter.

It could happen after the big breakup - which they honestly seem to be careening towards. But it would be out of character. Would they risk that, since him (and Magnus) are so popular, and as such give them (I think) more screen time and character development than the others? I doubt Malec fans want to see them happily broken up. And the new showrunners want to make the characters, especially, more accurate to the books.

On the way, I saw five hours of sleep - but your fire makes it all worth while.

reply

Well it's a huge fail, so far. I don't want them completely broken up. But have Alec live, and go back that relationship, after.

reply

I know that and don't have many problems with Malec being the big ship for either character. I was just pointing out that the actor (Daddario) is so bad that he makes his own character insanely boring in spite of all the screen time he gets. More screen time than almost every other character besides Clary.

So if the OP of the thread thinks that getting a new love interest will miraculously help with that and turn Alec interesting, they're barking up the wrong tree.

Personally, I hope Malec break up for some reason in the next season. The show has made the ship so boring that they need some kind of tension or just anything besides boring conversation after boring conversation that they currently have every episode to be worth rooting for. And Magnus deserves a better, more interesting, adventurous and sexier ship than this endless blandness that he's got in that relationship with Alec.

What are you talking about the Malec relationship going nowhere? They just went on their first date and are falling in love. I'm sorry but for Alec to suddenly ditch magnus after only 1 date and hook up with some mundane he doesn't know is not only illogical but totally idiotic.
