2.05 Recap: Poor Simon and What is Going on with Izzy?

This wasn't my favorite episode but it contained some good stuff. It was rough seeing Simon's mom catching him drinking from that rat and watching Clary go to her wits end to save her mother.

Also, what's going on with Izzy and that stuff Aldertree gave her?

It's a kind of drug, see http://shadowhunters.wikia.com/wiki/Yin_fen

Idk how I feel about this episode. I was shocked that they introduced yin fen this way, especially considering it's importance in The Infernal Devices series. On the other hand it gives me hope that we might at least get more tidbits from TID, maybe even Tessa & Jem eventually.

This episode felt/looked more like what I see when I read the books (I think they've toned down showing the high tech Institute), but Idk how I feel about the big changes from the book. I don't really agree with killing off Jocelyn--she's not my favorite on the show, but I do think she should have been kept around until the end of this season (or at least the mid-season finale). But since they woke Jocelyn up early & made her believe that Jace is actually her son in the show, it took away some of her importance as one of the few people who knew the whole truth--so maybe killing her off isn't that big a deal....

Good things about the episode:
--Simon! His family drama feels real & true. He really shines when he's not up Clary's butt. I hate saying that because I really love their friendship & their repartee.
--Alec was much more likeable & relateable in this episode. It was good to see him struggle with the death of Jocelyn & specifically not wanting to face Clary. But it shows tremendous growth that he does face this little girl who has turned his life upside down & is direct competition for Jace's affections. And I like that Alec is there with Clary when she (yet again) goes off to do something ill-advised. It was also nice to see him & Magnus together without Magnus drooling all over him. Again, Magnus's storyline is more interesting than his thirst for Alec. I love what Magnus tells Alec about seeing who he really is.
--Clace being there for each other in a non-creepy way.
--Clary having her first vision of a new rune; it's about time!
--Dom looks superfine, as usual! Jace & Izzy training, yes please...

Bad things/things I'm not sure about:
--Isabelle getting hooked on drugs, thanks to Aldertree. I can't really say this is out of character for her; show Izzy seems to want someone to pat her on the head & tell her she's as good a Shadowhunter as her brothers. But knowing what I know about Yin Fen, I really wish they hadn't done this to her. It makes me worry about her future, are they maybe grooming her to become an Iron Sister (not book canon)?
--Where is Sizzy? They had a little bit of Sizzy interest in the beginning of S1, but they completely dropped it. This also makes me worry that they might drastically change Izzy's future. Although I think Emeroude has teased some Sizzy stuff for this season..?
--A lot of new characters. This new warlock Iris Rouse for example, while interesting, is taking away from 2 other character storylines. Lillith's exploration of making her own demon children in the book gets represented her by this warlock trying to make more warlock children. And Iris being able to bring dead things back to life takes away from Clary's ability to create the new rune that does the same (in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th book, I don't remember). Clary's rune has terrible consequences & she vows never to use it again, but it's her ability.

Anyway, sorry this post is so long!

Then I became Nerdferatu.

I can't swim.

Well the next episode apparently is set with the Iron Sisters and Tessa should be there, so if Izzy is taking Yin Fen, than she would know exactly what it is and the affects it has on people, so i will be disappointed if they don't introduce Tessa next episode or Izzy's taking of the drug isn't discovered

I really don't want them to turn Izzy into some drug addict, i see no point in that story line and it really doesn't need a drug addiction storyline

It's that kind of thing that has bugged me from the first season, they just seem to be adding all these things gimmicks to the story, we've had a wedding, alternate universe episode and there are more clichéd things they've done, just for the sake of doing them, when they really don't need to do these kind of things

They have the source material and it''s six books long and while i get the adaptation thing and putting your own mark on it, there is no need to change things so much or add gimmicks

So yeah anyway, i don't know if i like this storyline with the yin fen and just hope it isn't dragged out for the entire season

Another tidbit from TMI was the half shadowhunter/halfdemon baby Dr. Warlock wanted to get off Clary. Major nod to Tessa there. But considering her methods clearly she (or the show runners doing what they feel like) hasn't done her research. Tessa was possible because she was born of a shadowhunter who didn't know she was a shadowhunter and who bore no angelic marks. Clary is quite runed now. If Dr. Warlock had tried this 6 months ago, then maybe she'd be making some sense. I seriously doubt her magic tea was going to cut it.

But I agree with you re: Lilith's exploration and Clary's ability/rune power. But since they killed Jocelyn, I have no idea what these writers are thinking.

Sizzy better happen.

The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love..

I can't shake the feeling that half of the reason why they hooked Izzy on drugs was so that they could have her act out little orgasms on camera. That woman just radiates heat every time she is on screen and they can't do much with it without loosing their rating so...now they have her moaning, sweating and grunting as she rubs her body...PG13 style.

Simon was warned to stay way from his family but would not listen. I get that Izzy will become addicted to that stuff.

Don't Pitt Simon he brought it on himself for making the dumb decision to go home. As the writer of the episode said that decision by Simon was not very smart. It's understandable to want to ho back home to his family but really stupid to actually do it without any thought whatsoever to how he would handle his whole vampire secret.

I was hoping the demon would eat Clary.
