I'm sorry, how did Simon Helberg not get a Best Supporting Actor nom?

He was fantastic in this. I often forgot this was the same abrasive idiot from The Big Bang Theory. It earned him so much more respect in my eyes because it was a different kind of character. Shy, charming, funny, caring...for a fairly quiet character, Helberg really made him complex. What's all the more impressive is how he managed to be completely at ease and natural on screen with old power houses Meryl Strep and Hugh Grant. I'm incredibly disappointed, as an Oscar nomination would garner him more attention so he can do different stuff once he's done sucking the teat of Chuck Lorre's awful show.

Hugh Grant got the shaft too, but I'm more upset with Helberg. And frankly surprised at how little buzz this got at the awards at all. Usually these well acted, beautifully designed period pieces get eaten up by the voters.

The Oscars care very much about big performances.
So Meryl Streep gets attention here.

I do think however that the real star of this movie is Hugh Grant (having a significantly bigger role to be fair), I think he gives the entire movie weight and if anyone should've gotten an Oscar nomination.

Simon Helberg blows me away every time he steps away from being Howard. That show may have started his career, but he will be working long after Kaley Cuoco. YouTube his name and watch his chops elsewhere.

Yeah I'll definitely have to check out some of his other work, like his small comedy show he had before Big Bang stole him up.

Agreed, I thought Simon Helberg was fantastic in this.
