she did the right thing at the end, why didnt she do that from the start

Why debate with a nutter you dont know for all that time? The one internet rule is never talk to people you dont know. When he downloaded that voice thing and started talking I would have been so creeped out I would have ran out the room screaming.

Because at first she thought it was her friend Alex, then she probably thought it was a friend from school or something, she probably thought it was a joke but yeah in hindsight she should have closed the laptop from the start.

For a teen it is easy to think that if your reputation gets destroyed then your life is over.
Later on we learn how futile that time was because after school pretty much everything chances over and over again. But we only learn this from the experience.....that Casey didn't have yet. I understand her reaction.

The right thing to do is not just close the laptop. But immediately turn off the power and pull any plugs. This way he hacker cannot erase traces left on the computer from the hacking. Any traces of the visit is still stored in cache and logs and all those places that forensics at the police station will know to look for when you turn in your laptop for them to examine.
Too bad for your porn stash though...let's hope they'll be discrete about that to your parents. ;)

cause we would not have a movie otherwise

If this happened to me, knowing what I do now, I would have told him to go ahead and post the pictures and then took my computer right to the police because that's a serious child pornography/blackmailing charge. Movie would have been over in 5 minutes.

But I understand when you're a teenager you care a lot about what your classmates think of you and the humiliation you'd get from your peers if that had happened. I don't get the sense that this movie is directed to speak to adults, it's directed to teenagers.
