Could this happen in real life as in the movie?

Was it realistic?

Haven't seen this movie but this can and has happened. A news report about some male hacker put a Trrojan on girls computers and he can see and record them through their cameras. He threatens them so do a lot of things. The show CSI Cyber had an ep similar as well.

Yeah, its a good idea to cover webcams when not in use.

I kind of meant, this person had complete control over this persons computer and was able to remotely control it, open files, upload things, log into websites etc.

Just look up sextortions and a lot of stories will pop up. And yes cover up your webcam.

Yes it's very realistic. Things like this do happen.
On a lesser scale I have had trolls attack my family and me.

You can't keep a good woman down.
