Series Finale?

shareBy the time this movie comes out, the show will have been around for 7 years. Maybe by then the show will be one the verge of ending and by 2017 it'll have most likely run it's course, might be due for closure by then and should be at the point where it has justified a good run. I'm not saying I WANT it to end, let alone get cancelled unexpectedly, but I imagine, at least by 2018 or 2019, the show might be coming to an end by then it's still producing episodes by then. As some have pointed out, the Season 5 finale, The Cutie Re-Mark appeared to be a set up for the series finale. Unlike say, Pokémon, which has been running for nearly 20 years (I'm aware the Pokémon franchise itself is 20 years old, but the anime will be 20 next year as far as when it premiered in Japan), MLP FIM seems like it will establish closure at some point. Just so you know, I'm only speculating. I love the show, but I hope it ends on a good note before it jumps the shark. Some can argue that it has already jumped the shark, but I personally don't think it has.

My gut feeling is that the final Equestria Girls movie will be about them graduating high school. Furthermore, I hope the show gets good closure instead of becoming like The Simpsons or SpongeBob where it keeps going to the point where the quality goes downhill.

shareIf that's the case then I guess that's a bit of a bummer since I was hoping they would incorporate Equestria Girls into the actual TV show. For example, I was hoping Sunset Shimmer would eventually get added to the show as opposed to just appearing in the Equestria Girls films.

I would be all on board with Sunset going back to the pony world. It would definitely stir up the dynamics of the group since she is a leader type and some theorize that she made the Alicorn transformation at the end of the second film.
shareI'm totally in agreement--would LOVE to see Sunset in the series. I kind of hope that Camp Everfree is the last EG movie. I did like it, but more just seems very unnecessary. And much as I love the show, I don't want it to continue indefinitely, because precious few series are capable of sustaining their quality level past a certain point. I'd welcome another season or two, but then perhaps it *might* be time to end it well? We shall see. If this movie did turn out to be a series finale...well, I certainly hope it's a real masterpiece worthy of being that. I could even see them doing a second movie if it's a big success, even if the series did end after Season 6 or 7.
shareWe already have a pretty good idea that the movie will come out somewhere in the middle of season 7 airing. So it would be a rather strange place to put a series finale.

Oh, I see. That sounds logical. Last time I checked Wikipedia for a confirmation of S7 renewal, it hadn't said anything about it, so I couldn't be completely sure. But YAY! I mean, if the movie introduces great new characters or concepts that might show up on TV, I wouldn't want it to be the end. :3
shareI knew there would be a seventh season because it would not make sense to end the show with season 6, which was basically a full year before the movie is due. I hope we get an 8th and hopefully even a 9th season, but I wonder if the show will still be running by 2020 or 2021? 2020 itself will mark 10 years since the show itself first premiered per se. Might I also add that this show is a huge hit but so was TMNT 2003 and it had a good 6 to 7 year run having run from 2003 to 2009/2010 and sadly TMNT 2012 is slated to end with its 5th season. :(
shareYeah, as long as it can keep up the quality and progress the storyline for another two or three seasons or whatever, why not? :] Seasons 5 & 6 contained some of my very favorite episodes. I started watching the show on YouTube in October 2010, and my, how time has flown since then...it was crazy watching it blow up from a few handfuls of us enjoying it online, to a full-fledged worldwide phenomenon. I don't know whether it'll be able to run for a decade or more, but whether or not that happens, it'll remain among the most celebrated and rewatchable series ever!
Personally I liked the original 80s Ninja Turtles more than any subsequent incarnation of them. But I know they're one of the most enduring and merchandised cartoons. One of the recent live-action movies that I saw on Netflix was actually pretty good too, I thought.
I'm just hoping we get the exact day season 7 airs very soon and the exact day the half hour Equestria Girls specials will air. I'm hoping season 7 debuts in April at the latest or March at the earliest. Not only would I be more than happy if we get an 8th and heck even a 9th season, I'd hope for a 10th season too.

I honestly In general wonder if the show will still be airing new episodes by 2018 or 2019. Like I mentioned, I can't help but wonder if the show will be wrapped up by 2020 or 2021. Only so many shows air for over ten years and I just hope the show doesn't officially jump the shark either with season 7 or with or after the movie. We all know Spongebob was suppose to end with the first movie and the episode The Sponge Who Could Fly was suppose to be the series finale to Spongebob, but Nickelodeon's greed led to them turning the show into a joke. I wouldn't want My Little Pony to face the same fate as Spongebob or The Simpsons for that matter. I know I sort of mentioned this, but I imagine the writing team will give the show a proper send off in the long run.

It may. I'd be okay with that if it means the show gets the kind of finale it deserves, rather than just being one of those things that just doesn't know when to quit. I enjoy some of the later SpongeBobs and still love The Simpsons, but Nick really should have ended the former when they'd originally planned to. Would've given the absorbent yellow one more dignity. Luckily I think that in order for FiM to devolve, a team of less competent people who didn't care about it half as much would need to be given its reins--and I doubt anybody'll allow that to happen. ^^
shareI also thought I'd point out that I still enjoy the newer Family Guy episodes even though people complain about its declining quality and while the newer South Park episodes are good at least in my opinion, I find it kind of sad that South Park is only 10 episodes a season and that is why I never find the time to watch it. I also dont mind the new CGI version of Thomas and The Tank Engine, I just never get around to watching it and I don't really mind the 2015 Bob the Builder like most purists do, but I never got around to watching it either, I've seen a lot of the new Sesame Street and still enjoy it for what it is. Pokémon has always been hit or miss for me. While I liked Kanto and Orange Islands, I couldn't stand how drawn out Johto was and the Advanced series was slightly better, but Diamond and Pearl was a wasted potential due to all the filler and Best Wishes felt too much like a reboot. I saw a little of XY but the filler combined with how I didn't like Serena's character put me off it but I still hope to check out the Sun and Moon series. Sorry if I'm getting carried away. All the same, I can see MLP justifying an 8th and even a 9th season and a 10th season could happen, but I think in the end, the writers are planning on giving this show a proper send off either with or after the movie.

Haha, no, I agree about MLP. I'm also glad that South Park's still going even if they had to decrease the size of a season. (Actually, what I WISH is that "season" meant a defined number of episodes regardless of what show you're talking about, because I find it absurd that a "season" can be 8 episodes or, especially for cartoons, 26+. O_o Set it to 13 for hour-length episodes and 26 for half-hour ones, fine, but I find it so frustrating the way it is!) Anyways. Family Guy can still make me laugh, too.
I personally don't like the CG versions of Thomas and Bob the Builder...doesn't hold the same charm for me without the traditional animation styles (and Ringo Starr narrating Thomas! Plus, I saw one little movie that made an abominable mockery of Diesel's voice, & it infuriated me.) Man, do I miss Shining Time Station. Sesame Street's still all right if you ask me, but in most cases I'll always love the originals/earlier seasons best--EXCEPT with MLP! It's a rare exception. I never got into the first 3.5 "generations," but I've been obsessed with G4/FiM since October 2010. And it only seems to be getting better. Today I realized that the majority of my favorite episodes are from Seasons 4-6.
I'm a massive Pokemon fan and used to watch the show in the morning before school and then college. However, I stopped watching it faithfully sometime after Misty's departure. I'll usually stop on it if it comes on Boomerang, but Idk, at some point it started to feel very repetitive. The Team Rocket agents have always been my favorite human characters; I find them much more interesting than Ash's main group of kids, and I got tired of watching them show up for a few minutes only to crack some puns, make a lame attempt at capturing Pikachu, and blast off. xD And Cassidy & Butch haven't shown up in forever, I don't think. The Orange Islands were one of my favorite regions. (I still have a travel brochure I created for them when I was younger.) I did watch the Generations series on YouTube and recently got caught up on all the movies thanks to Twitch streaming them. x)
I know it's been a while since I replied to this thread, but King of the Hill comes to mind as a show that justified a good 13 year run although I was kind of disappointed it ended when it did since I had just started to check it out. It seemed like a show that would be on forever since Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park are all still in production so why not King of the Hill? I would not mind it getting revived and I feel Pink could take over for Brittany Murphy as Luanne since she replaced her in Happy Feet 2. It is kind of sad King of the Hill hasn't been in production for nearly 8 years. I remember it being in production since I was little and I was only six years old when it first aired. I guess some have argued King of the Hill was declining in quality, but I didn't really think so but this is coming from a guy who likes the newer Family Guy and South Park episodes.

Yeah, KotH had a pretty good, long run. I like it, but never really followed--just caught it sometimes whilst channel-surfing. It also never seemed to be as popular or well-known as The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy, though it's in the same vein. I'd turned 10 the year it debuted.
On-topic, I've caught the recent MLP Movie new-character reveals via Twitter & Tumblr! Princess Skystar and Queen Novo, Tempest Shadow, Capper, and the Storm King--just, wow. 8-o AND, supposedly William Shatner has already recorded voice work for Season 7...so my dream of an MLP/Star Trek crossover is apparently one step closer to reality...xD
None of the new characters really stick out to me design-wise, but they all look like a good fit for their chosen voice actors. Very much looking forward to seeing Blunt playing the (most likely) hench-woman.
Guess we'll get a trailer with Power Rangers next month?

I do really enjoy the designs of the (non-Alicorn) princess and queen (of seaponies, perhaps?!) Capper the anthro cat is interesting; Tempest looks kind of "bad" and has a broken horn, which has surely got a story behind it...and, of course, the obvious villain appears to have some relation to Tirek...
I think the voice casting does seem very auspicious. Especially excited about Chenoweth; I'd been wondering when she was going to get a pony part--it was bound to happen. She and Diggs give me very high hopes for the soundtrack!! Blunt, too, as she was pretty good in Into the Woods.
