Had the chance to see this movie at a local festival, but the messages about Mereles just before the credits was displayed in Spanish and not subtitled. So I didn't get the meaning.

What was said about the events?

It said that he was arrested by the Mexican government on weapons charges and was currently in federal prison, but his followers maintained his innocence and claimed the corrupt government was just trying to silence him.
