grindlewald fortold ww2

i have always wondered, what the magical community would have handled HITLER

reply

Yeah, well I regard that as sort of a screenwriters cheap shot; when both the writer and everyone in the audience knows what happens next, it's easy to make one character seem brilliant by predicting the obvious.

Now I don't like the "Fantastic Beasts" films much so far, but I do like that in the "Harry Potter" books, Rowling included Grindlewald as part of magical history. If the magical community was involved in a war of their own, it explains why the wizards didn't swoop in and put a stop to WWII.

Of course, as yet we have no explanation for why they didn't swoop in and put a stop to the universal madness of WW1.

international statue of secrecy?the muggle prime minister didnt involve himself with voldemort either, despite being warned.VOLDEMORT WAS JUST AS EVIL AS HITLER.

reply

The International Statute of Secrecy wouldn't stop the wizards from interfering in muggle affairs, if things went as pear-shaped as they did during the world wars.

I mean, the thing about magic is that it's almost entirely *secret* by its very nature, it's invisible to muggles and takes no more equipment than a stick in the pocket. I mean a wizard could apparate into Kaiser Wilhelm's meeting with his cabinet and put the Imperius Curse on them all, and nobody in the entire muggle world would suspect a damn thing if they suddenly sued for peace and apologized to all the bereaved families of the world. If I had a magic wand and a good command of spellwork, you bet your ass I'd be paying a secret visit to the Trump White House. Nobody would ever know a thing.

then wtf is the ministry of magic good for

reply

Honestly, the real reason the wizards don't interfere in muggle affairs seems to be sheer isolationism.

There's probably good reasons for that, there's no doubt that if amateurs like me went around interfering in muggle affairs for the greater good, they'd do more harm than good quite a lot of the time. So much so that they probably had to make it illegal to even try.

reply

i agree, funny how us muggles seems to be polluting the environment and capable of nuclear warfare. Woudnt the wizarding world see muggles as threats?

reply

Oh, there's probably some sort of officially sanctioned interference, and it's established that there' communication between wizards and muggles through official channels. Like in the book where the Minister of Magic had a nice long chat with the Prime Minister, to let him know the real cause of certain current events. Wizards have undoubtedly made polite requests to the more reliable world leaders, such as telling them it'd be a bad idea to put a freeway through Godric's Hollow and suchlike, things that protect wizarding interests.

Personally, I wish the wizards and witches would get out there and protect the muggles from themselves, have spells in place that will keep, you know, nuclear war from destroying the world. And wouldn't it be great if they'd take a hand in protecting the environment? Like apparating all the plastics out of the ocean and dumping it on the headquarters of whatever corporation produced it, or putting no-see-um barriers around sensitive habitats that need protecting from development. Yeah, I can dream...
