So I looked it up, not a real substance, that I can find, however it seems to me that this substance and its trip is supposed somewhat be a substance based on the trips people experience on ayahuasca. Thoughts anyone able to find more information. The trivia here is blank and as a movie and show trivia junkie I am kinda curious.

My guess is, the name of the ritual drink is a pseudo-Polynesian pun on the word "avatar." One of the original definitions of which is a physical manifestation of something supernatural.
