SPOILER-SPOILER-SPOILER-SPOILER

Seriously, only read this post if you are not going to watch the episodes somehow.

I am not going to try and outline all the plot twists and turns that occurred in the 'second half' of the shows run. For a fuller explanation you should read the Plot Outlines I have added to the episodes and in particular the more detailed Plot Summaries for each episode kindly added by don@minifie-1.

OK, first of all it is important to say to those who have only seen the first three or four episodes that the show developed an even more supernatural bent as it progressed - culminating in a heavily supernatural finale.

In the final episodes:-

Despite the best efforts of Kyle and Co the wedding of Aumea and Koringo appears to be proceeding as planned - and then she disappears.

Rev Calcott's belief that Koringo is an angel and that Aumea must be sacrificed in order to be reborn and fulfil the religious prophecy he envisaged prove to be false and he has been manipulated all along by Koringo.

Kyle, Budgie, Lara, Maui and Aumea's father unite to try and save Aumea from being sacrificed.

It is revealed that Chief Matikuta has been misleading Kyle all along. It was never the Chief's intention for Kyle to save Aumea, but to use Kyle to facilitate her sacrifice in order to right a past wrong. i.e. - Kyle is the one who will discover the supernatural pool in which Aumea will be sacrificed.

Koringo is revealed to be half-human / half-water spirit. He intends to sacrifice Aumea by drowning her in the supernatural pool inhabited by the other water spirits. Her death will allow both of their spirits to 'cross over' into the realm of the water spirits. Without her sacrifice Koringo will not be accepted by the water spirits.

Kyle's group arrive at the pool and attempt to stop the sacrifice. Ultimately, Kyle realises that as all of the things he saw in his visions have come to pass he must be the one to drown Aumea as he envisioned. However, he dives into the pool in pursuit of Koringo and Aumea. In the ensuing struggle both Kyle and Aumea appear to 'drown' and their comatose bodies are pulled out of the pool by the others. However, in the pool the spirit form of Kyle pursues the spirits of Aumea and Koringo to the bottom of the pool - where the water spirits are pulling Aumea and Koringo into their realm. The spirits of Kyle and Aumea manage to free her from the grasp of the water spirits and Koringo is dragged down by the water spirits. The spirit forms of Kyle and Aumea escape from the pool but are being pursued by the water spirits. As first Kyle, then Aumea's 'real' bodies are revived the others cast the pearls, that Koringo and his followers used to open the pool, into the pool sealing it and preventing the water spirits emerging into the 'real' world.

With Aumea saved and the danger averted, we then see that Kyle is to build a new life on the island with Aumea and work on the family pearl farms. Kyle reveals that he has the pearls that Budgie stole and that Budgie could use to pay off his debts back in Britain. However, in a final twist it is revealed that one of the pearls in Budgie's stash is one of the sacred pearls that can open the pool. When Kyle touches the pearl it seems to 'burn' him and we see the sealed pool opens - just a fraction.

Thank you so so much! I really appreciate all the effort you put into answering my question!

I was rather frustrated when the show got pulled. The show had it's flaws but it still got me pretty curious about the mystery.

No Problemo - hope that made some sort of sense to you.

It does indeed!

It's quite a cool mythos actually, especially combined with the setting.

I did enjoy the show...but sort of wish they had embraced the supernatural aspects of the mystery a bit sooner. (Obviously with Kyle having the visions there was some supernatural elements explored from the very beginning but they didn't come on too strongly with the supernatural elements it seems until later in the show.)

Thanks for the review of the final episodes. You did such a great job that even though I couldn't remember any of the characters names, I could tell who everyone you referred to was.
