Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Hey Everyone,

Just got back from the cinema and I was underwhelmed unfortunately :( I just feel it missed the mark on most counts...

I have YouTUbe review channel and I know this is a shameless plug, but I have to promote my channel somehow right? It would mean a lot to me if you could spare a few minutes and see my thoughts about the film and I would also love to know your thoughts on it too...

It's tracking very well so it will probably make money. Not sure what you're talking about.

reply

It's a Lego movie, an animated movie and a Batman movie. I think it's going to be one of the first big success of 2017, together with 50 Shades Darker.

reply

Oh it will undoubtably be a financial success but is it a flop in terms of filmmaking?

reply

When you say filmmaking do you mean critically? Then no. It's doing pretty well critically and most reviews I've seen are mostly positive.

reply

It's also VERY well made. Just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean that it's an absolute disaster. Maybe "Rock Dog" will be more your speed.

Child of the Eighties.
Man of the Nineties.
Man-Child of the Twenty-First Century.

I just saw it too and it was actually better than I thought it would be. By no means is it a flop it's fantastic.

reply

no, because flop refers to financial success not anything in terms of filmaking

reply

Most of the world doesn't share your opinion, Mr. Wayne.

reply

Well, considering "Monster Trucks" and "Rings" have already flopped, along with others... no, this is clearly not going to be the first flop even if it was absolutely awful and lost a billion dollars. ;3

But I think it'll do fine. It's NOT awful and it's the only new kid-friendly film out. It has zero competition for its target audience ("Sing" will be on week 8, and kids have seen it enough) plus it's based on two properties kids love: Lego and Batman. The title alone will draw millions into the theaters.

reply

The film is fine and I am sure it will be well received critically and I think it will do well financially as well.

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock

I just saw it and I think this film's audience aren't just kids but adults too. A lot of the jokes and references range from 20-90 years ago,and younger audiences simply wouldn't get that.

thank goodness these boards are going away for good. you don't have to see this kind posts anymore.

first flop of 2017 my arse.

This will be the only comment or reply you'll get. Like I give a sh!t about YOUR interwebz opinion.

This is a good post mate Cheers!!!

Don't care what you think.

And to answer your question: No.

Mark your link doesn't work bro.

I saw it, I sort of see what your saying. The movie is fine, but it's no where near as memorable or game changing as Lego Movie. It over stays it's welcome by 15-20 min.

I think the issue is that it's a children's movie. It's aimed at the ten and under crowd.

There are random nods to the old Batman for fans. The "love" story between Batman and Joker is sort of subversive but very basic. But and a lot more stuff and characters are thrown at you without much distinction between them.

None of the set pieces are memorable. The Batman rap song is nothing veering on embarrassing, it's no everything is awesome that's for sure.

Lego Movie created a lot of good will and this movie will easily coast on those good vibes critically and financially. But two weeks from now you won't be thinking about the movie, but your ten year old will watch it non stop on video when it comes out.

It is a Lego movie that is not an issue at all its a movie based on a kids toy containing mostly kids characters and you need to judge it as such. The Batman rap song is fine but I do agree it is not up with everything is awesome but that was a great tune.

So you are actually saying that the movie will work really well for the target audience but you were somehow expecting something deep and meaningful from a LEGO movie and are now disappointed because the movie lacked the impact of say Schindler's List?

You make the common mistake of thinking that a movie that kids can understand and enjoy must necessarily not be rewarding on a deeper level for adults. I guess you have never had that experience. For me, The LEGO Movie was one such, of many.

That said, there are movies which have no greater aspiration than to distract children for 90 minutes. I hope The LEGO Batman Movie is not one of those, but I guess I'll have to see it to find out. And no, it doesn't have to be deep or meaningful; funny and entertaining works, too. There's a whole lot of options between "mindless childish pap" and Schindler's List.
