Wardrobe question: where are the designer jeans?

I really enjoy this series and many Australia/New Zealand films and series. So, did they not have the designer jeans phenomenon 1978-1982 like we had here in the States? I was kind of waiting for their appearance. I recognize Westside is not a slavish recreation of the period but one wouldn't think costumers would miss the opportunity unless Jordache et al. didn't get there.
