London Spy cancelled- No season 2

Judging by what was said, Tom Rob Smith messed up on two fronts.

1) He admitted the show had nothing to do with spying really. So why was it called London Spy? Somewhat misleading.

2) He said it was about key relationships. Then he goes and kill them off! Of all the people to kill, surely you don't choose the 'heroes'?

Tom Rob Smith's words just confirm the basic flaws in the conception of the show. The BBC commissioner could have dealt with this over a bit of frank pillow talk with Tom Rob Smith, methinks. The show let viewers down. I feel sorry for the American viewers who are going to feel how we Brits felt.

Speaking to the Guardian, Tom Rob Smith confirmed that he’s cancelled the spy drama, despite the BBC wanting to continue for Season 2.

"The BBC have asked and my instinct is that it probably shouldn’t continue. If you’ve lost the two central relationships, who would you be spinning Danny through? I preferred Charlotte and Ben going head to head, I don’t know whether they’d have the same spark as friends.

“I don’t have any desire to explore the real-world spy consequences of what was going on. It was a relationship drama refracted through the prism of the spy genre.”

Once Danny had learnt that his love story was real – which was the key question to answer, for me – and re-evaluated his relationship with Scottie through this world, it was whether to close everything off or decide he’d found someone new and gone on this new adventure.”

I really don't think this show will be well-received at all in the US. But, if they keep Alex alive in the American remake (if any), only then will they commend it.

When is it going to be available in the US?

It airs January 21st on BBC America.

Thank goodness for that. We need an influx of America-based comments. I mean, we will be spoiling them rotten, but I hope they come, because this site has been quite dead. Most Brits are all moaned out, lol. I am looking forward to continuing, saying, don't waste your time!

Wow, it never really occurred to me that there would even be thoughts of a Season 2 lol.

American here, but I downloaded and watched it shortly after it aired in The UK.

The first episode showed so much promise, then it all went downhill and I only watched with the hope that Alex would be alive because...what's the point?

I feel bad hearing all the buzz here over the start of the show. Inside I am thinking 'Just wait...'

Ben truly is a wonderful actor, but not even he could save it.

...I'm still bitter over it all.

Shame. I really enjoyed the series.

"Can you keep a secret? Can you know something and never speak of it again?"
