BBC America version edited?

It looks to me like the original English version, episode 1, is 1 hour long, but the BBC America, after commercials, is 55 minutes long. Does anyone know if indeed BBC American is showing shortened versions?

Did they get rid of the sex scenes? American TV is well known for being more conservative on that front. You can shoot as many people as you like, but show someone's arse and people get concerned.

reply

I pretty much always assume it is unless it's an original. Meaning a good old American show made in Canada like Orphan Black or Copper.

Episode 1 as aired on BBCA is an hour and 15 minutes long so if was edited for content, there wasn't much removed.

reply

We got only 56 minutes here. No actual ads, but a lot of hype for other BBCA shows.

reply

Hmm...maybe they played the whole thing on the premiere night but not on reruns?

All the other episodes also ran from 10:00-11:15 p.m.

I have it as 57mins on the on demand version through optimum/cablevision

Get the show from Amazon streaming - inexpensive, and every episode uncut, all the 'adult' language un-beeped, all the nudity unfogged (what a tender and moving m-2-m sex scene in episode one! Wow!) And uninfected by relentless commercials, which would be anathema to LS's carefully developed sense of dread and anxiety. Someone on this board claims episode one on BBC/A was '1 hr 15mins', but clearly doesn't understand that BBC UK is commercial-free and BBCAmerica is quite the opposite - BBCAmerica *ruins* British shows by means of censorship, as if we're all infants who need protecting. With Amazon, you pay your money - and receive the first season, in hi-def, for $13.99 - and you have it in your streaming library permanently. What a great show, sexy, compelling, Ben Whishaw giving an absolutely stunning performance.

I can't even find it on BBC America. Of course, it may be because I live in Mississippi, they probably aren't going to air it here. Bible belt and all. Of course the state is full of Gay people, but full of churches too.

The version on BBC America was always going to be edited!
There is uses of the f-word, sex scenes, nudity etc. All of which BBC America doesn't have the stones to broadcast uncensored for some reason!!
Not to mention there is commercial interruptions to consider aswell.

iTunes has the uncut version, in HD, uncensored to boot which im about to begin now!
And apparently, Amazon has that aswell so.....
