so what happened?

Loved the movie I just wish they wrapped up his relationship with his students mom a little better. Left me wanting more

I agree, thoroughly pleasant film. It seemed tailor made for a few comic panel wrap up scenes, something easily done, even now.

I agree. While the ending was satisfactory, it would've been more powerfully delivered if the filmmaker(s) ended with a few comic panels.

I was led to believe that by attending his ex-wife's (Diane) wedding that Will finally brought closure to that relationship. So the film ends with him stealing a bouquet of flowers from the wedding sign-in table. His smile tells me that he is going back to take up with Diane, the mother of one of his students. Will had left Diane previously because he still had feelings for his ex-wife, but that was now over at the end of the film.

reply

yes this. The film totally had closure

And Diane already told him that he hadn't yet gotten to know her, so now comes the part when he learns she talks out loud to movie screens...

She probably wont date him because he is lower than a background dancer. 😜

I liked how he didn't stay for the ceremony, but instead made sure that Charlie and Gary were at the altar together.

Agree, Anaheim. And so ripe for a sequel!

Agreed. That was my only gripe. Tying up loose ends with that relationship through his now finished and published "graphic novel" could have been very cool.

Did not see yourlastwarning's reply, haha.

The movie had plenty of closure. It ended on a hopeful note. Do those of you who need to be told what happens next really lack the imagination to fill in that blank?

reply

No need to be rude...there are plenty of movies, such as ACOD, that use this "mysterious" ending technique as a cop out. It's perfectly natural for people to want to know what happened to characters they've become attached to.

That said, I thought this ending was the way to go here. It was a slice of life film and this guy's life is just going to keep going on. Also, there's no way he gets a second chance with the other woman. She was not a dumb rom-com stereotype, he had his chance and blew it on his awful ex. No need to end the movie on the downer of him getting rejected.
