The Main Flaw In This Film (and franchise).

I'm sure this applies to all the films but this one in particular assumes that purgers don't kill or attack... other purgers.

Purgers seem only intent on killing people who want nothing to do with the purge (and there always seems to be a convenient abundant number of such idiot people out and about on purge night... why?). Surely, the only real opportunity to kill is to kill other purgers.

This brings me to the film's worst example of this. Those girls who want their candy bar. Sorry but wouldn't a group of girls floating about in a light covered Christmas tree of a car be... raped 34 times before they even put on their costumes?

If nice people are somehow forced (convenient to the plot) to leave their house, they're instantly in danger but these girls can swan about town in a moving light bulb and nobody rapes them for an hour then cuts off their tits?

Fück off.

There are loads of flaws in the film/franchise. The main one for me is the killing of poor people. These people are the workforce, the people who serve the rich people drinks, cook them food, labor, fix things, do the clerical and administrative side of their businesses etc.

If the poor and workforce are removed, how do the rich get rich, or enjoy any luxuries?

I'm undecided about what would happen to the girls. I think rapists would rape regardless of whether it was legal or not. Just my view though and not based on fact.

It might be difficult to approach a group of girls carrying weapons.

Yeah. My first ever post on IMDB was on the Futurama message board, so thought I would use it as my signature.

for me the biggest flaw is that people don't do what's logical, which would be collectively break into banks and such. i understand this is justified by the even more stupid "new founding fathers" idea of getting rid of your demons by purging, which is the height of stupidity.

Who's gonna risk raping a group of psycho girls who are carrying weapons?

More Psycho guys carrying bigger weapons

Painbow:
You sound like a damn psycho way too focused on that word "rape" (cut out their what? Gross!) As anyone with eyes could see, those young women (not girls) were heavily armed, so one was getting near them except for the heroes. Also, this film is a satire, so of course some parts of it (like the crazy strapped woman who wanted the candy bar) are just completely over the top.

There's lots of obvious problems. Problem one is why are even "bad people" out on the street in the open? I would expect most "purgers" to spend 364 days a year fitting out home made armored cars so they can drive with relative impunity and just shoot at random targets, including other purgers wearing ridiculous costumes.

Problem two is why isn't anyone engaging in mass vandalism? You would think arson would be a major problem, followed by bombings.

Problem 3 is containing the mayhem of the purge to just one day. Wouldn't there be a mass of revenge killings after the purge?

I like these films....but I usually spend 50% of the time picking out the many plot-holes, whilst I'm watching them.
The main one that always lingers is......why wait till (and finish at) the designated date and time?
Forensics aside, it's not as if there's cameras EVERYWHERE, which record exactly when someone has been killed (and within the exact timeframe) And even if there was, the huge backlog of genuine 'purges' would clearly rule out each and every body be checked to determine when they died?

The problems are kind of endless. The biggest one is how you convince an entire country this is an acceptable practice.

I think they really should have done more with the back story on it, made it a much more different dystopian universe.

They could probably have also made it more "team" oriented -- like having everyone assigned to a designated social category or categories, and only making it legal to kill people without your affiliation. Like economic status and race, and you can only kill people whose categories are totally different than yours and anyone matching you has to be defended. Rich, white people could only kill poor or middle class non-white people, but would have to defend rich black people, for example.
