I can't accept Cooper as a sexual being.

Cooper kissing Diane for the first time was bizarre. Even when he was with Annie, he seemed so chaste. (And was he two-timing Diane while with Annie?) Moreover, it didn't seem like him to indulge in PDA.

Worse, when Coop and Diane arrived at the motel room, I got a chill. As he beckoned Diane to him in the dark, the profile of his face looked like Bad Coop. His mouth and chin were turned down in that way.

Then of course during the intercourse he had Bad Coop Face all day.

Side question: Was their a stunt double for naked Diane? Her back seemed too juicy for Laura Dern.

reply

I don't think there ever was anything between Diane and Cooper other than friendship. I think the original kiss (Diane said they only kissed once before) was a way of telling the difference between real and Tulpa/Doppelgänger. They have to kiss to make sure they know it is the real one. When they meet in the sherrif's dpt and in the hotel because Diane was out of Coopers sight (and there was a Diane double there so they are aware of the dangers of other thems still being in play).

Coop and Diane seem to have had a plan which we only saw a glimpse of (he asks if she remembers everything) and it involved crossing to the other dimension by having sex. Obviously this was painful for Diane, having been raped by Bad Coop, and also shows why Dale shows no interest or emotion during it. It must have been too much for Diane, who after crossing, becomes Linda and forgets, whereas Cooper remembers he is not Richard.

reply

Diane also covers Coopers face with her hands and looks up, not directly to him.

I got that scene as a sort of exorcism for her raping by Bad Coop. It played out weirdly because for a moment we saw him giving her orders "turn off the light,. Now you come here". That is more in consonance with DoppelCoop's nature. But he wanted her to know that he is not DoppelCoop and would never hurt her. All in all, a good scene.

I still don't get what Richard and Linda means. Why did they become (?) Richard and Linda... and who the fuck is Linda?

reply

Good Cooper would have recommended she see a therapist rather than agree to sleep with her.

What they did was for the purpose of crossing over to the Universe where they become Richard and Linda. Diane has forgotten she is Diane because the sex magic was too much for her to cope with because of the rape.

New Cooper isn't the same a Good Original Cooper. Whether he has some Bad Cooper in him or is just getting worn down by trying to save Laura, who knows how many times he's done this now?

reply

Sex Magic. The perfect way to enter a different dimension.

reply

I can't accept Cooper pointing a gun at innocent people either. There's no way it was really him in episode 18.

reply

Actually, while mostly morally upright, Cooper seemed to be a flirtatious ladies man. He had an affair with Caroline in Pittsburgh. He had instant chemistry with Audrey and later conceded that he desired her. He fell in love with Annie at first sight. He was even kissing the "beautiful woman" Laura in his dreams. I'm not surprised at all that he had kissed Diane once before.

All that said, the sudden romance between him and Diane felt forced. I don't think he was in a romantic relationship with Diane. She worked for him and they were friends. I would have preferred Annie or Audrey be his love interest in S3.

reply

He doesn't have the best track record when it comes to trying to have sex with women (read his autobiography for more details).

reply

I haven't read it. He's not a casual lady's man in the shallow, promiscuous sense. His perceived "chastity", at least in the show, is a combination of his boy scoutish ethics and him being so mission focused. My point was that we repeatedly see examples of him appreciating female beauty, successfully flirting when he wants to, and even having romance lure him into questionable decisions. He explicitly talked about that regarding Pittsburgh. In a two season show spanning maybe a couple of months, we saw him bang Annie, flashback to the affair with Caroline, expound about love, and kiss at least three different women counting vision Laura, all while he was on assignment.

So maybe not seeing him as a sexual being goes a little far, lol.

reply

I don't remember him and Annie getting it on together. They kissed, yes, but that was all.

reply

Annie visited his room so he could help her write her Miss Twin Peaks speech and they ended up having sex.

Forgot about that then. I was never a fan of Annie anyway.

Here you go.

Of course being network tv they cut away.

reply

Bleh! I will just imagine they just kept their clothes on and snogged a lot.

I was for Team Audrey (for when she was old enough as she is now....)

reply

I was on team Audrey even then. She was 18 after all, which especially seemed old enough to me since I was in junior high. I liked Annie too though. Sorry, but aside from it being obvious in the scene itself, the context of their discussions leading up to the event made it clear they were going to make love.

reply

He is a dead fish in bed! As dougie with hot af janey E, he lay there like a dead fish while she did all the work. But at least he was smiling then.
As himself? with Diane, he lay there like a dead fish while Diane did all the work. He didn't smile, his face never changed. No wonder Diane was so freaked out she had to cover up his face with her hands.

reply

Dougie doesn't count, lol, and we don't know what was going on in the motel in episode 18. The only normal sex scene we've seen with Cooper was with Annie in S2.

reply

That's because the sex wasn't out of attraction for each other or even meant to be enjoyed. It was done so they could cross over.
