Brilliant adaptation.

I recently saw this picture at a screening in Santa Monica. This past weekend. Director Bernard Rose and star Tony Todd were there.

Without delving too much into the film, for I feel it's a film that bears need to be seen while exhibiting a theatrical run, the picture forms an amalgamation of all Director Rose's works up to this point, from the imagery, to the narrative structure, to the casting and more. The film is a compelling take on the classic story, that, while modern and updated and given a face-lift (taking place today, in Downtown Los Angeles) retains the same emotional charge and human integrity that makes the story so classic, thereby giving this version the same refrain. Everything that makes Rose's earlier horror works (particularly "Candyman") so endearing and entertaining, works here in top notch form.

To fully understand what I am trying to say about this film, go see it.

I have a couple of questions for you :)

How much screetime did Carrie-Anne Moss have and how was her performance?

Thanks.

reply

Her screen time was limited but sufficient and ample. She performed stellar, as always, and has never looked more lovely. She was one of the best things about this picture (of which there were many).

"limited but sufficient and ample"

I'm not sure you know what these words mean...

How did you know he was talking about your intelligence ?

Seeing that McAvoy and Radcliffe version is due this fall. I'm actually waiting for this version so since you just saw it should get it soon.

I don't know anything regarding the McAvoy/Radcliffe version other than the Igor spin it takes. I doubt it should be very faithful to the book, at least not as much so as this version is.

Honestly, I was overwhelmed with surprise at how incredibly well done it is.

reply

I just saw the trailer, looks like a funny action take on it.

**Looks like it might be one of those hidden gems with the limited release but it is nice to know it well well received. I'm sure you can't be the only one who enjoyed it. cheers

Regarding the McAvoy and Radcliffe version. An article, photos and clip in The Daily Mail:

I'd also like to ask how much screentime xavier samuels got?

reply

From the read on the main page, I doubt any of will get to see it.
Maybe only in special markets like La or NY.

reply

Xavier Samuels is the star - and carries the film with exceptional sophistication, and extraordinary talent. He makes the character of "Frankenstein" monster more human than anybody else ever has, save for Boris Karloff. Incredible.

I doubt the film will be released world wide. Sad too, as this is more of the type of horror films we should be seeing these days. It is an ADULT horror film, straying away from tweeny boppers and their iPhone/facebook/instagram killers.

Just ordered it from NetFlix. I'm in San Francisco.

reply

Is this on DVD? I can't find it :(

reply

Low rating, but it may be underrated or misunderstood as its a Bernard Rose movie.

I nee to see this one too. I have seen the other new Frankenstein movie.

reply

LA? oh boy forget it.

reply

i agree with in the way that this film is a solid retelling of the original.. 5,1 stars is such a BS
