So why didn't they make detective Carter a white guy or white woman?

Before answering.. "because in the movie he is a black man" and making yourself a complete hypocrite (see your responses to people who had a problem with making Johnny Storm black in Fantastic Four) I want some real responses from everyone.

It worked for the Ghostbusters remake...

OH SPOILER ALERT!

They could have and I wouldn't care.

Luke Cage. Dare Devil. Black Panther. Jessica Jones. Asians can be heroes too, Marvel.

reply

YOU wouldn't but it wouldn't be funny.

reply

Obviously because they didn't want to, and if they did I doubt anyone would give two squirts of piss. Nobody is going to watch this trash anyway. Also what was the point of your question? Do you want to see a white detective Carter?

reply

No, I could care less if Carter is white, I mainly asked it because Hollywood changes the characters to make certain groups happy. I figured that they may try to make whites happy by purposely changing the color of someones original color to that of someone white people could associate with. But then I thought, nah.. they don't care what white people think.

I see what you're trying to say but isn't pairing an Asian guy and a Black guy the novelty of the three films?

Casting a white guy would just make it another buddy cop show. Not to mention the guy who plays Lee is half-white anyways.

I already have enough weird friends as it is.

True. That was why the Rush Hour soundtracks had so much rap and r and b music in them.

Well they did it with Jimmy in Supergirl, main reason im not watching it.

The trend to transform formerly white male characters to minorities and women has to do with the lack of minorities and women in Hollywood.

I attribute it to the laziness of the industry to not come up with new characters, so they'll just rehash old ones in any new shape or form.

So mostly lazy white businessmen behind this "phenomenon".

White people need more representation on Amerikkkan television? I hope you didn't really think this contrived query would be thought provoking....epic fail *smh*

reply

Notice how OP didn't even suggest a black woman (which I thought would be a cool change) or any other ethnicity, just went straight for white anything. Complete transparency.

reply

I hope your joking!

Because that's how the pair-up was in the films, and that's what made it the seriee unique and successful in the first place. What point would it have been to change it,anyway? What else is anyone supposed to say? There isn't a damn thing hypocritical about saying that. Why are you even asking this to begin with? And who the hell even cares besides you? Geesh. Also, the thing with the Fantastic Four was an entirely different issue that has nothing to do with this show. You really don't have a point, so just drop it already. Besides, white people dominate 99% of TV anyway, but yet some of y'all still complain about the tiny handful of shows that don't have a white lead. Give e a damn break, already.

I think they might have considered a gender swap but I don't think gender swapping would have been the way to go.
If you make one a woman there's always that sexual tension even if it's never on the cards. If you were going to do it, it would have to be Lee. If you swap Carter to a woman you lose most of his attitude because he's a guy with over confidence who thinks he can get any woman he wants. If you do that with an even slightly attractive woman she would be able to get anyone she wants.
The only way to gender swap and possibly remove anything sexual would be to make them both women or make one of the gay. But again that just means you lose what makes the characters who they are again.

Plus have you seen the number of buddy cop shows on at the moment? Practically all of them are a man and a woman. Keeping them both men actually makes it stand out.

reply

Would have made no difference. They made him short. Shorter than the Chinese guy. which is worse.

sukhkknight are you kidding me? Woman need more representation in movies in Hollywood? Woman are fricking all over the place in Hollywood. I wish they would stop treating the MAJORITY (woman) like a minority.

reply

I wouldn't call them the majority, but (specifically white/European) women do make up a large chunk of what we see in the media. I won't get into the types of roles available or the disposability of young blondes though..

reply

You are so right. I mean every major blockbuster features a woman as the main star. There are actually no men in any major blockbuster feature.
