Felt really uncomfortable [Spoilers to anyone who hasn't seen the movie]

At the end of the movie where the throw rocks at Ashley Greene's character. And I'm not a native of any country where you speak english and I was tired and not paying that much attention so I really couldn't quite understand the context of this but it felt so *beep* wrong, especially for me being a woman, seeing all these men throwing rocks at her. I just don't understand what was the message for the viewers about this.
And I'm a big fan of Ashley but I don't think she made a good choice accepting this role.

just skipped through this, biggest turd i've seen in a while. they didn't even have enough decency to show her tits. not that it could save this POS... don't even bother, not worth the bandwith.

reply

They were just stoning her to death because they had the urge to. Nothing more to it other than to show the break down in society and humanity most likely.

Are you saying if it was a man stoned to death you would have been fine with it?

reply

I'm not saying that, tho comparing to men's death this one was beyond more graphic than the others - it just felt wrong to me. would have been the same if it was a man in her place but it wasn't.

The movie has a lot of religious undertones (as well as overtones) and the stoning of women who acted as though equal to men is a running theme in the bible.

I guess this has a little more sense, yeah. Still it was hard to watch.

reply

Agreed. I had just watched Room 205 which has a particularly powerful rape scene just before watching this film. It was a bit rough on the psyche.

Err, according to the Bible, it was whores who were stoned to death.

Actually there are numerous offenses for which God requires his followers to stone people to death. A woman having unmarried sex with or without her consent is just one of them.

Murder, adultery, rape, Sabbath breaking, disobedience to parents, witchcraft, and idolatry are the ones common to most Bible versions. Others exist depending on the flavor of Christianity practiced. Admittedly most of these are equal gender offenses. The victim however is always a male or God Himself. A rape is an offense against the husband or the girl's father for instance.

This scene was actually one of the better parts and illustrates redemption in my opinion. From my perspective she incited the "Beach King's" wrath partially in a hopes that the other two could escape and partially to atone for her responsibility for Neil's suicide.

Essentially she sacrificed herself for others.

I just thought it was because they considered her a "witch" because how she had treated Danny Mastersons character. So the friend who became the leader sees through her and thought of her being a witch so they stoned her to death like people they considered witches back in the day. I can't really explain it.
