What happened to the Saxon hoard?

At the end of series 1 we got a cutaway to the ship burial Lance and Andy had been searching for (and were inches from thanks to Becky) and then...nothing! If Crook doesn't do a series 3, or at least a special, then what was the point of the teaser? Seems that with Andy finally having his archeology degree and the DMDC officially associated with both the museum and the university things are perfectly set up for a major find and some friction as Lance, unlike Andy, wouldn't be part of the official dig itself.

I'm not sure the ship was meant to be found; more the delicious joy that it is right beneath their feet.

I think you can also infer from the drama after Lance finds his gold that some things are better left unfound. The search is the thing

Andy knowing that he will be married and have a baby hugs Becky and says, "I've found my gold." meaning something entirely different from what he said earlier after unearthing the piece he found while out with Sophia.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
