Why is this show so good? It's not overly funny and not a drama. It's just a show that's there, but it is so good. I wish there were a ton of more seasons.
And now the freak circle is complete.

It's hard to articulate the magic of Detectorists. To figure out the formula that made it work would remove some of that magic I think. You are right though--it is deceptively brilliant.
Maybe one aspect of its brilliance is that it's about regular people plodding through regular life with all its ups and downs and their hobby that is quite irregular and the allure of what could happen if they are in just the right place at the right time.
I think that sums it up perfectly 👍 Oh, and 'Simon and Garfunkel' crack me up!
shareThey do me too! The scene when they first meet Andy and Lance is brilliant. After Andy says to Lance they look like Simon and Garfunkel, I swear the music is a riff on The Sound of Silence. Then when they are asked "How are we?" Andy replies with "Feelin' groovy." Genius at work right there!
