The only major embellishments are #1 Ichiko's professional debut is against a 4X World Champion -- No manager or trainer would allow that mismatch nor would it be sanctioned -- and #2 referees usually don't allow sustained beatings like that and will stop the fight a lot sooner.

Yeah it stretched the credibility a little (even to me who doesnt know a lot about boxing) but dramatically and cinematically the fight was one of the best I have seen in a movie! The main actress was superb.
