The plot sounds an awful lot like the movie Sleepers where a group of kids get sent away for accidentally killing someone and years later they reunite to get one of their number acquitted

shareThey discussed this at the winter TCAs. It was not based on Sleepers, but on a Turkish series. They veered away from the Turkish series quite a bit. Suskunlar, the show it was based on, is indeed based on the book version of Sleepers, however the producers and writers of this show did not use the film nor the book as inspiration or a baseline for their storytelling. Critics are calling it "Sleepers meets Mystic River". It's not a ripoff in any way and the series it is based on is fully credited.

Also, I predict quick cancellation. We're talking about a show originally set to premier in January, but repeatedly pushed back. Good time slot with The Voice lead in, but limited promotion and not much action, info or buzz about it here or elsewhere....Plus, of course, nothing even remotely new or interesting as far as the plot goes....
It's up agains Rush Hour (which is predicted to flop fast) and The Catch (also being panned as one of Shondaland's worst shows) and has The Blacklist as its lead in. It's being lauded as one of the 10 best new shows of the midseason. It's going to do just fine. And why do you care anyway, since you clearly don't plan on watching it?
shareWhere is this "lauding"? I haven't seen anything. And yes, it has been pushed back twice. It was originally slated to premiere in early January.
ETA: the lack of discussion here (with much of it bagging on what a ripoff the show is already) also does not portend good things for the show.
Oh, and they never pushed it back (unless you count changing the premiere date by 5 days to give it a special double premiere behind the voice). It was never given a premiere date, it was always slated for midseason and was never given a premiere date until they announced April 7th and then the 12th. I've been waiting for this show for a year, trust me on that one. It was always slated for midseason when it could have a full season run without interruption.

If someone hates a show based on the show itself is OK. But to hate a show because the person hates a show because one of the actors was in another show and was in the way of her ship is another matter. What's with the obsession to stalk and trash the actor in his other projects?

I thought the exact same thing. Sleepers is one of my all time favorite movies. The plot seems to be exactly the same.

shareI came here thinking I'd find a thread like this. Before I even started watching the show, I knew just based on the previews it was JUST like Sleepers.
Sleepers is one of my favorites, if not my favorite, movie of all time so this is interesting to see but at the same time very weird. I'm liking it so far, but I hope I'm not disappointed.
So I'm watching this show having had no idea what it was about. I just happened to turn the tv on and saw Larenz Tate. I have been a fan of his since my childhood back in the 90s so he's the reason I didn't immediately turn this off. In any case, like it has already been said in this thread all I kept thinking is: damn, this is so similar to Sleepers, a film I happen to love btw. I was put off initially when I noticed the similarity but half an hour in I've got to say that I am liking it so far.
