THE NOT-SO-DARKEST MINDS - SPOILER ALERT

When The Darkest Minds came out I decided against seeing it. Its reviews were unsatisfactory, it didn't pull in that much revenue, I shrugged my shoulders and decided to wait for it to be on Comcast. Now that it is, though, I decided to finally see it and, surprise of surprises, I liked it.

The plot is similar to the X-Men - kids with strange powers are on the run from the government. Those captured are sent to internment camps where they are color-coded and segregated according to their abilities (remember Divergent?). One breaks free, meets others, and after several adventures (some exciting, some predictable) literally finds strength in numbers.

As I previously mentioned the movie was a flop and I can see why. There have so many young-adults-versus-their-dystopian-society movies (let alone book series) the whole genre has become tedious. Unless the story offers something original it is not going to attract an audience. That being said The Darkest Minds still has its moments. It is worth a look at.
