Oh dear

My benchmark for a truly awful film that even Film Students could have done better with is Snow Beast. Arthur and Merlin IS better then that but it's not brilliant. Now I have just found out that it's an Independent and probably WAS crewed by film students it sort of makes sense. The acting was pretty dire most of the time from all of the actors. The writing was abyssmal, although the story idea was good and the location shots were good. Next time spend more money from the budget on getting a good script because bad actors saying bad lines makes it so, so bad. If you don't have a Special Effects budget - forget the special effects and use lighting and camera work instead. The dry ice indicating the scary wood helping Merlin at one point actually made me laugh out loud it was so awful. Saying all this, I could actually see it being turned into a Saturday evening series along the lines of Robin of Sherwood, Merlin, and Atlantis where we get to learn more about each character and begin to like them.

It's not a film I'll be adding to the DVD collection to watch again but equally I don't feel as if I've wasted a couple of hours. With just a bit more work it could have been much, much better.
