Why piss off the nazis with opening song?

Why did pat say he had a dumb idea and open with a song that pissed off the nazis so they started throwing bottles and stuff at the band?

reply

because it was awesome!

also showed that they were a bit reckless.

What's more punk rock than acting first and thinking later. Maybe they thought they would buy some credibility

reply

this.

it's what a punk band would do.

Back in the 90's I was in a punk rock band and we literally did this exact same thing, with the same song. It wasn't a creepy Nazi club in the middle of nowhere, it was a sleazy bar in Visalia California, but a *beep* load of Nazis skins showed up, so we thought it would be a good idea to end our set with some Dead Kennedy's. The peckerwoods weren't impressed.

reply

To be honest my punk band did the same thing, beat for beat. Ah, good old times.

reply

As already stated because that's the true spirit of punk rock & even the most hardened nazi punk can appreciate the irony of the band playing that song at them or the balls required.

reply

Because even though the band where a bunch of unlikeable theiving individuals, sticking the finger to the nazis with that first song was a clumsy way of getting across to the audience watching the film -'hey, we aren't racists, so you should root for us in the film'.

I think you are missing the point, that being that by sticking it to the Nazis they demonstrated a clear line between the good guys and the bad guys.
