Was the face paint they wear at the end a reference to Conan the Barbarian? That's immediately what I thought of...

Good point, but their face paint seemed a lot more similar to the Conan paint. Plus, it seemed rather fitting with the whole Germanic/Teutonic/Neo-Nazi stuff...
