I get it and maybe I don't...

Is Apatow supposed to be celebrating monotony and overly simplistic minimalism or realism with this series? I'm only on Episode 4, but so far Mickey, Gus, Bertie & co just seem like lifeless boring hacks who have take no enjoyment in life and it all just sucks to be in your 30s. If that's what he's trying to do, it makes sense but it's painfully annoying and aggravating to watch. It's just so anti-climactic and slow moving. Some of it's funny but it's funny b/c it's just so painful. The funny parts are when I want to slap Gus in the head for being a dork! Mickey seems the same way except that Mickey sleeping with her boss seemed odd seeing as she stays at home and masturbates later on and it doesn't get here anywhere.

Maybe I see too much of myself in Gus and Mickey's characters, even though I'm not much of a nerd. His personality just seems so awkward.

It gets better after ep 4. The episodes start to have more interesting situations. Some of them are downright ridiculous, but still more entertaining than the first few eps.

I hope you're right, b/c right now it seems like I live a more interesting life than both Mickey & Gus.

I enjoyed the Gus/Bertie date episode (#5) because it was fun watching certain things become exaggerated (I'm purposefully being vague her so as not to spoil it). There are certain aspects of later episodes I personally found cringe-worthy, but I enjoyed the series overall because I felt it tried hard to depict how real people would behave in these situations based upon the traits that each possess. I like that their behavior is determined by the personal baggage that each is carrying around.
