Guys like those don't get girls like those

I'm early in the season and enjoying it. But come on folks, guys who look like that or who still live with their PARENTS at that age (really???) do NOT get women that gorgeous. And they're certainly not having threesomes with beautiful women.

Guys who look like that would have to be filthy rich. And these guys aren't that either.

It's an Appatow nerd fantasy and it's a very good show. But let's not fool ourselves....this ain't happening in the thing we call real life.

Gus doesn't live with his parents.

And a less attractive guy can get a great looking girl (if she's a messed up as Mickey). I know b/c I've done it.

reply

Not talking about Gus. The older dude in episode 1, the one who wanted them to read books together (don't recall the name). He lived with his mother and was older...and had a beautiful girlfriend.

Ridiculous and not realistic.

I do agree that given the absence of money or status, guys like these could only nab beautiful women who had mental problems.

Part of the clue is that at some point girls stop wanting douchebags and become women looking for a nice guy. Plus she's pretty messed up.

reply

Actually it happens all the time. Not everyone is a shallow one dimensional piece of *beep* as you're implying.

Some very attractive women value personality over looks. When Mickey started falling for Gus, she was vulnerable from the last douchebag she dated. She saw Gus playing bass guitar with her friend and she saw him as "cool"

Some people are into nerds.

If you don't know a couple like this in real life... You're either in middle school or you're just ... In need of a more diverse group of friends.

reply

Came here to say that. Was flipping through a site called "best movies and shows on Netflix" and saw this. One look at the couple, and then the producer (Judd Apatow) and I said NO. Unless that guy is the most charismatic, charming thing on two legs, he would not be with that girl.

reply

Did you watch the show? Or did you just look at the cover and decide that they did it wrong?

reply

Definitely seems like the latter

reply

In no universe anyone lives in does unemployed and broke become attractive to women.

As for Gus, if he had money, the romance(s) would be believable. I enjoy the show highly but it is pure fantasy all the way.

reply

wow. you are completely clueless about women. there are multiple women here telling you that they have been in relationships with a guy like Gus....myself being one of them...most women dont give a @#$% about money. Im not saying there arent a small percentage of shallow women that care about money out there, because there are... but there are also shallow men that only care about looks. You need to get out more because thinking that women ONLY care about money is the most ludicrous misconception ever.

reply

Both of them, Mickey and Eric (or whatever his name was) were *beep* up individuals. *beep* up individuals tend to connect with each other. The fact that she was also a love and sex addict probably made her get attached to him fairly quickly. Sex addicts just want sex and he used it to his advantage.

And as much as it can be a nerd fantasy for Apatow the guy's married to freakin' Leslie Mann who's pretty much out of his league.

Not sure what planet you live on, but by and large...it doesn't happen. Pure fantasy.

Maybe he lives on a different part of the planet than you? I know nerdy guys can get beautiful women b/c I am a nerdy guy that has a gorgeous fiance. So this show isn't fantasy to me.

And I don't make squat. Sometimes being funny, honest, and sort of good looking is enough to get the job done.

reply

Nerdy is one thing. I don't think most "gorgeous" women would find the main male character on this show attractive. Just not realistic. If he had a boatload of money, he might be able to attract a woman like that.

Are there the occasional 1% exceptions? Sure. But they're very very rare, no question.

reply

Cool. I'm the exception.

Works for me. 

reply

Lol.....I salute you!!

People don't get together because other people find them equally attractive.

reply

You are correct, intelligent nice guys don't usually end up with lying, cheating, drug addicted women who stink of cigarettes, taste like an old ashtray, and bitch and swear all the way through a date because she doesn't get it.
