Powerful *Spoilers*

I understand it's the whole "product of their environment" thing but, this documentary is really heart wrenching.

The brutality of the crime and, how remorseless the criminals looked...mind boggling. This is coming from an Iraq War veteran. Those guys had absolutely no remorse in their eyes. I wouldn't feel bad, not one bit, about killing them. Making them look me in the eyes while strangling them.

Terrible terrible problem for a society to have.

I do NOT understand the 'product of their environment" thing. At least not entirely. I understand why they might use this argument to justify doing what they did (and apparently at least some of them had been doing - a lot - up to that point), but in no way, shape or form can I understand how ANY human being can put their hand inside another human being and rip their intestines out.

And these guys argued that they were not 'raping,' they were 'teaching a lesson.' So they were being exemplary citizens? I see. And their argument that they did not kill her, they let her go after the gang rape (and intestines being ripped out), and how now, by prosecuting them, the prosecutors were condemning future rape victims to death because not only would the rapes not stop, the rapists would now feel obliged to kill their victims so the rapes weren't reported? Ah. I see, again.

And so...I see a solution. Overturn the death sentences. Instead, sentence them to 'being taught a lesson." And go easy on them. DON'T rape them. Just rip their intestines out and leave them on the side of a road somewhere. Surely they can't argue with that kind of merciful sentence.

Don't get me wrong: When I say "product of their environment," I mean I understand where they get their warped f'ed up mentalities. The same way forced genital mutilation is still going on, to this day, in some countries. It's wrong but, it's happening necause those societies allow it to happen. Honor killings, these rapes, genital mutilation, sale of kids into slavery...all wrong but, if the societies don't change, they will continue to "produce" people like this.

At least the young people stood up and made a strong protest. They are the future of India, one hopes.

Did those guys get hanged? Is their death sentence still pending? Their lawyers made me sick. The details of that poor girl's injuries were horrifying. I don't give a damn if they hang them.
