There is no God.

We need a solid atheist movie to counter these dumb Christian propaganda movies.

Says you. You are not an authority on the subject. Why must you come on here and spread your hate?
I feel sorry for you sir.

reply

Why must your religion continue to make these awful movies spreading the scam of Christianity?

Typical Christian to say "I feel sorry for you" I feel sorry for the elderly that give money to your religion.

I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans."

reply

Why must your religion continue to make these awful movies spreading the scam of Christianity?
lol. Do you think anyone has actually converted because of one of these movies?

Please stop.

reply

Hey you never know with people these days.

I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans."

reply

I know. God's Not Dead made over $60 million and did not convince one person on earth to convert. If there's someone with evidence to the contrary, I'd love to hear the story.

Please stop.

reply

How do you know? Did you interview every person who went and paid to see the movie?

I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans."

reply

People usually come forward about these things.

Hey, I could be wrong. If I am, I'd love to hear about it. Until I do, I'm going on the assumption that film converted no one....

Please stop.

reply

In my case, God's Not Dead changed me from an apathetic atheist to an anti-theist. The bumper stickers in the movie reminded me of The American Humanist Association, which I joined after watching the film. I also joined American Atheists.

I've also noticed many Christian reviewers note that that God's Not Dead has caused them to question their faith. For example, Chris Attaway of The Discerning Christian writes:

So when I see a movie like God’s Not Dead, and I see the fear it has of atheists, liberals, Muslims, and the like, I can’t help but think something is wrong. I know what it is like to dedicate one’s life to seeking the truth, and this isn’t it; it is the opposite. This movie actually hides from the truth! Why doesn’t the movie actually engage with the atheists, liberals, and people of other religions which it depicts? Instead, it chooses to attack straw men and forge a counterfeit victory at the end in order to pretend it has done something of substance. This movie is terrified of real discussion, or else the movie would put such discussion on display.

I'm somewhat curious to see if Do You Believe? fares any better, but at this point, my patience for condescending, poorly-produced religious propaganda films is rapidly diminishing.

reply

Well, when it comes to God's Not Dead, that's pretty much the only conversion I expect to see. As a Christian, I saw many flaws in the film. The idea that it "teaches Christians how to defend their faith" is laughable. The situations presented in that film are all strawmen, so they are not even comparable to real life discussions....

However, I've seen other Pureflix films that were pretty good, and much more deserving of the numbers and success than God's Not Dead. As such, I'm not writing off this movie based on one bad apple.

Please stop.

reply

What evidence are you basing that on. Did you communicate with every single person who saw the movie and they all said they were not converted? Maybe some people did accept Jesus after seeing it but chose not to put it on the internet.

reply

Ikr. God's not dead was awful. It didn't have any message at all and had all kinds of stupid reasons for having a religion

reply

LOL. Thanks for the clarification. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night not knowing if the keyboard warrior Binaryvegata didn't give his opinion on whether God exists or not. Thanks. I can sleep soundly now.

reply

keyboard warrior
lol. Weren't you the one typing that all atheists are pussies?

Please stop.

reply

OP
I am an atheist, yet I have no problem with these movies.
If watching something like this, or believing in something that I don't believe is real, makes at least 1 person a better human being, what's the problem?

I don't understand atheists like yourself that try to force your atheism (if that's even a word, haha) on others.
So angry.
I do feel sorry for you.

reply

I don't think by paying to see this movie it makes you a better person. Why not support a small local Church? Rather than give your money to these money making scam movies.

So it's ok for these propaganda movies to spew judgmental and close minded views onto others. I feel sorry for you as well.

I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans."

reply

Well first I never said paying to see that movie, or any movie for that matter, makes someone a better person. I said believing in something MAY make someone a better person, and if that something happens to be a higher power, who am I to judge.
You see, I thought your problem was peoples belief in God, hence the title of your post.
Now it appears that your real issue is the producers of this movie have the tamerity to want to turn a profit. Wow, those bastards!!!

reply

It's a MOVIE. It's entertainment. How is that any different from paying to see a bloody war movie? Or a sexist douchy frat boy comedy?

Christians have a right to go to the movies, too, you know. You don't like it, don't watch it.

The thing is movies like this are preaching to the choir. These people ALREADY have these views. The movies aren't changing anything, except catering to their base. Like another poster said, any actual conversions from watching the movie probably go from being christian/ambivalent to more non-christian/atheistic. It's the people on the fence that can be swayed. And right now, it seems these movies are pushing away those fence-sitters.

reply

Most Hollywood movies are from an atheist perspective. Why do you feel the need to put down this movie? What do you have to gain? Most atheists are more forceful and oppressive in imposing their opinions than christians are.

reply

I am just tired of these horrible scam movies being released lately. How could you say atheists are more forceful and oppressive in imposing their opinions when in less then a year we already have another one of these dumb movies..

God's Not Dead 2014
Saving Christmas 2014
Do You Believe 2015

These movies seem forceful in imposing their opinions and being close minded.

Dude, these movies, for the most part, are seen by people who already agree with the message.

The rest of the people who see it are either people who go in with the intent to badly review the film and people who are genuinely curious about the movie.

Even though Pureflix purports to be a movie ministry, their "ministry" mostly consists of showing the movies in churches. Basically, preaching to the choir. No one is putting a gun to people's heads and forcing them to watch these movies. Even if they did, a movie like God's Not Dead would never convert anyone....

Please stop.

reply

I agree. That was easy.

reply

Actually, there are TONS more films.... being made CONSTANTLY... you just don't see them.... because they go from production to video... You can get them at Family Christian or Lifeway.....The Christian stores have extensive video sections... And the movies are broad based and really good. Animated... comedy... horror.... Bible... thriller, etc.....Pure Flix...Affirm films...

I had NO idea this industry existed until I went to buy a copy of God's Not Dead at a Christian bookstore store...there I gave a couple of $5 movies a try and WOW!!! A whole new world of movies of hope and inspiration that DON'T leave me with a headache and confused with bizarre messages...

This is a thriving industry... but up until recently, the movies were not in the theaters.... occasionally Passion or a Noah comes along....but not God's Not Dead...Pure Flix and David A.R. White and Crew and Affirm (which is a Sony company) is changing the playing field...

Dove Foundation did a study and I believe it found faith a family based audience stands at 200,000,000 in America... And G movies earn 11 times more profit than R rated films...

Lets just keep these things out of the theaters.

How about separation of church and movies?

I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans."

reply

That's an interesting concept except we are constantly inundated with church and movies. It's just not Christianity. Its a different kind of church.... An anti church... It's rather taking pot shots against Christianity themes in movies. Here's a little taste of it.

Eye of Horus in movies.... subliminal messages in movies....if you haven't seen these before, it's creepy to see how prevalent the eye of horus is in Hollywood films. So...Hollywood is definitely pushing something on us...but it isn't God...(these are about 8 minutes each but any one gives you a crash course in the heads up bizarre world of the movies and subliminal messages in them)

You just out argued yourself by stating "there is no God" and continuing to expend
a tremendous amount of energy of something you believe does not exist. It would be like myself or another believer expending the amount unbelievers do on the "Tooth Fairy".... M..M

I am serious, and dont call me Shirley

reply

Well, faith in the Tooth Fairy isn't a widely held belief that clocks in at about a billion, so that analogy is pretty moot.

That's not saying that devoting energy to "de-convert" people (or as I like to call it: getting them to use their brains) is worth it. It probably isn't.

Let me reiterate the point, if the Tooth Fairy does not exist, then why even bother focusing years of denying what does not exist?

I am an atheist myself who despises organized religion but would that independent film starring Richard Dawkins and Laurence Krauss count? Forgot the name of it something about a great grandfather being a fish.

Also there is Religious, a movie that badly makes fun of religions.

I agree though we need an atheist counter to this movie the problem is filming a movie even one without fancy effects costs money, churches have way more money than atheist groups do.

reply

You mean Religulous, which was a pretty decent movie (7.7). That was in response to Ben Stein's "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," which was a terrible movie (3.7).

reply

Religulous is a great documentary with a few easily correctable mistakes (mostly during the Christ comparison montage).

According to the atheists I talked to, there are plenty of atheist films to see.

We need

"We"? You atheists arrived to this board as a group?

Seriously? Take a breather from the propaganda movies and watch Super Troopers now.
