Costumes & styling on the show

Well, I'm bored and tired of waiting so thought I'd play Fashion Reporter.

I do love the costuming on Lucifer. Maze's stuff is great, obviously. And I really like Chloe's style. Lucifer's suits are my favorite.

But I've gotta say, the thing I'm really happy about seeing in the promo is it looks like they've changed Lucifer's hair just a little bit and I like it better. It looks more like Tom and makes him more attractive, if that's even possible. It looks a bit shorter and just a bit wavier, not so smoothed out and poofy. In real life, for anyone who hasn't seen him in other things, Tom's hair is really curly. And I like seeing Lucifer sport a bit of the curl.

As for room for improvement. I think they could do better with Amenadiel's suits. He looks like a million bucks on the show called "Suits" so it would be nice to carry that look over. Otherwise, his angel clothes are great. And even his casual tee shirts look good. Unless they just want him to look a little uncomfortable in a suit.

I thought the story Tom told at comic con about DB Woodside chasing down the guy with the drone when they were trying to shoot on the beach was hilarious...especially when he didn't realize until some time later that he was wearing his angel "dress" at the time. lol. No wonder the guy was terrified, this giant 6'3" man, IN A DRESS, running after him and banging on his window saying "I just want to talk to you". I'd probably hang up my drone after an encounter like that, too. :)

Anyone else have any thoughts on the styling, fashion, makeup, etc on the show?

Oh I just thought of one more thing. Do you guys like Maze's shaved eyebrow thing? I know it's supposed to make her look badass, but I think she looks prettier without it.

This popped up earlier this week, and since it has to do with their wardrobe, it seemed appropriate to drop it in here.

Thank you for posting this! It was a lot of fun to watch.😀

Honestly, the only character whose clothes I pay any attention to is Lucifer. And his suits are absolutely gorgeous. And it's strange, but I haven't noticed a big difference with the hair. Either way, he looks good!

reply

Yeah, what I've noticed isn't a BIG difference and who knows it may revert back to season 1 styling. But it looks just a tad shorter and just a teeny tiny bit curlier, and I like seeing the curl. In fact, I really liked it the way it was on the beach with Amenadiel. It's when they smooth it out that I'm not quite as crazy about. But seriously, I'm splitting hairs, because Tom's gorgeous, and could be bald for all I care. :)

Ooh...I loved his hair on the beach!

I love the classy look of Lucifer's suits, though they are a bit snug. I noticed that last year. I saw the interview where TE said he'd already split like 10 pairs of pants this year as he'd been working out and this year they were a bit too snug. Not that I'm complaining at all. 😉

I do wish Lauren would dress up a bit more often. Her long coats are getting a bit too predictable. But I guess it gets cold in Vancouver in the winter, may be since they are filming more in the summer this season, she will be more varied.

From the snippets we saw behind the scenes earlier this month, Mum has a rather racy wardrobe. Can't wait to see her and how Lucifer responds. The devil may not care what she's in but I bet her little boy Lucifer does.

By in large, I think they do a good job with the wardrobe.

Forgot to add - about TE's hair, I like to see a bit of the curl too. I liked S1 hair but I did notice it was a little shorter this year. He seems to like it short. As someone with a lot of wave in my own hair, it can get uncontrollable when long. So I totally get it. I didn't like it when it was really short with all the curl cut off, like in RUSH. So, I'm good.

reply

I LUVVVVV the suits too. And wouldn't it be great if they'd throw us hardcore fans a bone by having him rip his pants in one of the episodes? lol I'd love that.

Oh And good addition with Mum's wardrobe. That one black strappy number is capital R A C Y!

I had a good laugh when Tricia commented he had split his drawers in their first scene together, and Lesley-Ann's commentary on TE's squats and the results was delightful!

reply

I just reread my post and I'm not exactly sure that "throwing us a bone" comment in context of Tom's pants was entirely appropriate. 

So, was kind of hesitant to post this twitter exchange, but Tom's GF is a celebrity in her own right and has some unusual fashion preferences. I thought this was an interesting observation on her sometimes-tendency to infantilize herself via her clothing choices (and comments). I'm all for personal choice, but do you think it hurts her credibility as a female writer? Curious.

Yeah, if you follow his twitter and instagram, he does a lot of cool little short film projects that he directs and acts in. I mean, he's got some cool ideas and it's nice to see him shadow directing one of the Lucifer episodes.

Love that photo by the way!

I haven't watched all of his short films but the one about the hitchhiker I thought was brilliant and there is one he does with his son that I really liked!
It is great to see the production end of Lucifer being open to him expanding his horizons.

reply

They really do seem to have the best of every kind of person on that show. Joe Henderson said it was "an embarrassment of riches". Either they got really lucky or Jerry Bruckmeier Productions is seriously on top of things and should produce every show on television from here on out.

I don't usually make a point of looking at who produces what or making note of it in my little brain but if Bruckheimer is connected to a TV show I will give it a shot with the expectation I will probably like it. I remember the first time I watched CSI - the original one. I was totally gobsmacked! The detail was incredible, the casting terrific and I stayed with it until William Petersen left. I loved Without a Trace and E-Ring. E-ring for some reason didn't last which was a shame. Just Legal was another one I thought was wonderful but it got pulled before it even had a chance.
There are a few people in show business I would love to talk to just to find out how they do what they do and Jerry Bruckheimer is one of them. Does he just pick projects very carefully, then give the people with the project the freedom to create or does he participate in the process? How does he decide what to take on?

So this is interesting about Maze's eyebrow. She tweeted out a link to an instagram pic of her and Aimee Garcia with a hashtage about the scar. I'm assuming she's talking about her eyebrow.

I'm surprised. It looks so much like that shaved eyebrow thing, I was sure she was doing it to show how tough Maze is, but apparently not?

So looks like both Chloe & Maze's eyebrows are the real deal. :)

I have seen pics of her without it. So I guess she fills it in with make-up, sometimes?

Well, either way, she's gorgeous.

New Facebook video with Leslie Ann getting her makeup done. Apparently Maze's eyebrow scar is real.

That video keeps stalling out for me, not sure why. :( I'll have to try it later.

But yes, I read a comment by Lesley-Ann on twitter or instagram with #thescarisreal not long after this thread was started, which made me wonder if she'd read it. I can't imagine she'd have the time, but who knows? I'd never heard her address it before.

Anyway, she's so gorgeous, she could shave off both eyebrows and still look great. And she seems like a real sweetheart, so that's what really counts.

In fact, it's kind of amazing how everyone on the show seems to be thrilled with how nice everyone else is. And the newcomers are just as happy as everyone else. And did you see where Charisma Carpenter said she's never received such a warm response from fans of a show she's appeared on ever? She seemed really stoked too!

So THIS is the hair I wish they'd let Lucifer wear (see link). This is how it almost always looks in magazine photo shoots. I'm not 100% sure why the stylists always smooth out his hair and poof it. I suppose it's because he's supposed to be some kind of throwback character and back in the day they didn't let their hair go natural. Don't get me wrong, he's sexy as hell, no matter how his hair is, even short like in Rush, or smoothed out, but maybe someday, they'll let Lucifer loosen up enough that he can wear his more naturally curly hair. And maybe even a sweater or tee shirt! Now that would be a shocker.

Not feeling it myself. It doesn't look horrible but I like his hair the way it is.
I might be partially biased but it reminds me of Nick Jonas in his younger years and so it's like for me it only works on Nick. I know that's Tom's natural hair but idk. It doesn't really suit Tom as an older man than Nick either nor does it say "I'm the devil"

I try to live without regret but I'm about to break a sweat. 

I always think he looks a lot younger with his natural hair. On Miranda, which only ended a couple of years ago, he looks 10 years younger than he does on Lucifer.

I get that they're trying to give him a dapper gentleman look, that his appearance is highly controlled, and that he's as old as time, but it would be nice for people to see the real Tom occasionally. The eyeliner changes his appearance, too.

I do like it when he shows up for stakeouts in a leather jacket. :)

But again, I LOVE his suits, I mean, really love them, so it's not like I'm complaining. Just would like Americans to see him in his more natural state, too. I also think he should be Dior's next model. I'm not sure anybody looks as good in a suit as Tom does.

I would like to see his hair a tad bit longer, with just a touch of the curl showing.

I do love a man in a nice suit. He wears them so well. 

Maybe you could get a Tom poster for your bedroom ceiling?

Plus and I can verify this, if one has any kind of natural curl to one's hair living on the west coast it will break free from any treatment a stylist can inflict on it. I know - I have natural curly hair and I love ironing it straight at times but no matter how many products get put in it - my hair during the at times damp weather here- will immediately rebel and go curly.
SO when Lucifer does shoot outside - I imagine the stylists have a hell of a time keeping his hair from going wild. The scene on the ocean between him and Amenadiel made me laugh last season because his hair totally by the looks of it broke free from product. Curly hair does not like to be tamed.

On a side note: Did you ever see the pic of him on a horse - I don't know what the role was, with longer hair - mmmm.

reply

Yes, that's when he played King Cedric in Merlin. I remember that character really well, but never put two and two together until I started seeing pics of Tom Ellis and that photo come up.
