hackers

an insight into people a bit like the burglars or tresspasses that break into other peoples stuff!
then call it freedom.
its just a good job people do this behind computer screens rather than in the natural world or there would be new wars everyday

Not all hackers are people who create viruses or log your keystrokes or steal your credit card numbers.

Freedom of information and keeping the internet free and uncensored has been a battle going on since before the birth of the www as it is now. And believe me, if it wasn't for the early hackers, you wouldn't be seeing the same internet you do now. Hackers build accountability into the system, and keep it something more than just another tool for large corporations. The internet still largely belongs to the people thanks to hackers and hacktivists. Anyone who doesn't fully understand that has missed a great deal of technological history and is living a very sheltered life. Yes, not all hackers are out there purely for the good of the people, they're not all "internet knights" with shiny armor. But to paint them all with the same brushstroke is a shame. They're not all just pimply-faced, socially awkward loners with cheeto-dust sprinkling their keyboards, or russian mobsters hiding in your computer stealing your credit card transactions.

Movies are IQ tests. The IMDB boards are each person's opportunity to broadcast their score.

A couple of these dudes came across as exactly what they are...a couple of low-level mediocre scruffs with a hard on for their own selves. It's not like we haven't seen computer geeks with atomically inflated egos before...if I throw a rock out my window, I could hit another uneducated doof dropout who believes he has some special power that nobody else possesses.

In fact, in Weev's case, for instance, you have a dude who was put in the SHU for his own protection because he wouldn't last 5 minutes in the general population of a prison. He feels that a too-bright light near his head equates to Russian Gulag conditions. Another pompous self-important idiot who's only claim to fame is trolling--a non-skill that bragging about serves absolutely no purpose. It's tantamount to driving a boat too slowly that's towing a water-skier behind, and making them sink into the water before speeding up again. The simple ability to throttle down and up again to temporarily affect one person's experience negatively for a brief time doesn't give one power over the laws of physics. And bragging about it as if you do have some sort of special ability only makes you look like a tool. Shock intended to insult or degrade doesn't open up dialogue and downplaying one of the world most horrifying human right's violations doesn't make you 'edgy'...it makes you an attention-seeking whore. And that's Weev.

The other dude with his sob story about how his life was ruined in another example of a scruffy loser with a superiority complex. Chain-smoking and waxing philosophic over the big bad government.

The fact is that there are many people who do the right thing. Many who actively work to improve society and they are plentiful. It doesn't always take disenfranchised loners and losers to cry foul for every little bit of social progress to happen.

What a sad post. They deserve jail time for not showing better social decorum, is essentially what you're saying. This exact attitude of indifference is why things are the way the are in the states. You owe more to these people than your ego will ever allow you to process.

I am ignorant of technological history, and you have inspired me to learn it :)
