ZOMBIES!

Why the heck is there a zombie movie based on a book that was about a disease outbreak! Are they trying to be like "world war z" 2013. Or are they tryin to make a non horror book a horror book. This is ridiculous. I'm fourteen and I was looking foward to a sequel showing the actual disease. Instead I got a horror movie that I decided to walk out of and I still really want to watch the third. I'm kind of ticked off!

Well, they were hella cool zombies. If I had read the book and this is the creative liberty they took, I'd have been satisfied. The zombies were just about the only enjoyable bit of this movie anyways.

reply

They definitely ARE zombies. And the reason is because they are not, well, dead yet. The true portrayal of similar virus would be in the movie «28 days later». Where people got infected, act crazy like the zombies, but actually die to hunger, since they cant feed themselves properly.
In this movie however, they can survive for years in the desert, where protagonists barely survived, and even mutate ! So either they got superhuman powers or they are zombies. One way or another they absolutely can't be called humans anymore.

They're infected. Not zombies. They aren't dead humans reanimated to life.

I think you're being willfully dense.

Zombies are pretty regularly portrayed as having been infected with a virus, so saying they're infected doesn't really help your argument that they're not zombies.

The movie shows people becoming infected via a scratch and a bite, both of which are pretty common ways of transmitting the zombie virus in virtually every zombie movie.

The infected people are portrayed in the movie as being largely dormant until uninfected people or animals come around at which point they chase those people trying to either infect them or eat them (it's really not clear why the zombies, I mean infected people chase them).

The zombies/infected people do not attack other zombies/infected people.

The only real real difference b/w the zombies/infected people in this movie and most of the others is the presence of immune people, although that particular characteristic is present in several other zombie movies, so it's not like anyone could even claim that this is a revolution in the zombie genre.

They use the grammar of zombie movies. It does not matter whether they are technically zombies or "infected", the way the virus is portrayed, the people who got it clearly fall into the rule set of the zombie genre, which is overused these days. Zombies have been trending for six years now, so still trying to cash in on them is a good indicator that the movie prefers the relatively safe end of a trend to the risk of creating something new.
This unfortunatly can be seen in many other elements, which are sloppily written or lifted in a rather lazy way from other movies. Which is a shame, as the cast is not half as bad as the one-dimensional characters they play, and the production value looks pretty good for a movie without scifi-blockbuster budget.

Does not matter

So, with your somewhat dense reasoning - one could also say that the walkers in the walking dead are not zombies.
Because they are never called zombies - they are just infected by a virus.

Come on, really??

The infected in scorch trials are pretty much zombies.
Stating otherwise just makes you seem willfully ignorant.
It does not matter that they just had a deadly disease in the book -
in the movie they were portrayed as zombies, end of story.

Well, since we know for a fact that some of them do, i highly trust the rest of the journalists either. Furthermore, in fact there are very few female game reviewers out there, less than 10% in the publications you mentioned.

Also you dont understand, its designers that are offering sex for good reviews.

Sometimes reviewers have not read the books the majority of the time

they maybe educated in Journalism and reviews but not in educating themselves on the actual books

ericapolitica
I don't know what they were trying to do, but the whole zombie thing ruined it for me. The movie was going great up until the whole zombie thing. I pretty much tuned out after that. I do not like horror movies at all or elements of horror movies that pop up in other movies including zombies. Why did they even have to put them in this movie? The flare was supposed to be a disease. They could've handled it in so many ways, but going the zombie route was just plain lazy. I loved the first movie, but after seeing this second one with all the zombie nonsense I will not be seeing part 3 when it comes out.

I never thought they were zombies and I dont understand now we are stuck with ZOMBIES dang

Thats why I dont get why people are saying there ZOMBIES its not the *beep* monsters like vampires and werewolves and the undead there not undead. Yeah I like your idea.

Since I like the movies and the actors I will but I understand about the zombie part

Have you seen recent television shows? My husband watches Z-nation and Walking Dead. In one, everyone seems to have the virus whether they were bitten or not; they just need to die before they become Zombies. I don't pay much attention, so I'm not sure which they are.

reply

No but have you read the Kill Order there not Zombies there infected with a virus its like mad Cow disease or rabies

not a rotting disease that rots you out like zombies

the first thing i also thought they're zombies. when they first encounter these "zombie looking people" winston shot them and they weren't affected with those bullets and they stand fast. i think that would be the reason why people think they were zombies plus "infected people or virus" are the reason why zombies exist in most movies.

P.S. i posted this while watching scotch trials and i'm not even finish with the movie. just giving my opinion and just so you know i did not read the book.

reply

Totally agree! I hate zombies.

reply

Is it just me but does a lot of this movie resemble the game the last of us.

reply

They obviously took Heavy inspiration from The Last of US for the Cranks. Not only do they live in spores over time like the clickers in Last of US, they even make the same noises.

Probably one of the greatest games ever made, story wise, and game play wise... It is a play on a Zombie genre by the zombies being created by cordyceps fungus spores like insects but has mutated to humans. (which is why some are grown into fungus).. 20 years after the outbreak.. Don't want to get into much of the story but if you want to see how they for sure ripped it off (because the cranks weren't described like that in the book) watch this video..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--EoI16f9YM

Okay a little like that

but more intelligent!

Well I dont know why the magazines said they were zombies there not. Did you read the Kill Order?

More like maybe Warm bodies they have intelliegence but are more like when R is becoming more human the parts where he is more human in the middle of the movie not the begining

Since the Crank Brenda and Thomas meet is more lucid

Well says you, buy not every other person who played that game, especially professional reviewers who all say it was hands down the best game of last generation.

If you're not into metal, you are not my friend.

You mean the same professional reviewers that were found taking bribes and even sex for good reviews? i wouldn't trust them to clean toilets.

And no, not everyone that played the game liked it.

Umnn you're kidding right? You really think video game reviewers like IGN or Gamespot offer good reviewers for sexual favors? First of all the ratio to hot women who work for those publication far outnumber the ones that work for Naughty Dog or any video game design company.. I mean Seriously you might be thinking of MOVIE reviewers, but video game reviewers are usually hot girls or regular dudes, why would they offer some sweaty designer sex for a good review?

Also yes it does matter what the books say as it is taken from the book, no matter how many times you say it doesn't.

How did you make this a 'horror' movie for good sake?
Of course, in all movies based on the book or an actual event, the director changes something to make it even more attractive for the public [if he thinks so]. If you expected to see exactly same story as it was in the book, then you are very wrong.
