Leaving the only gun with a guy who wants to kill himself

Isn't it the dumbest idea in the conditions given to leave the only gun with the guy who will kill himself?

Because surely they won't need it afterwards.

I guess the saying "I'd rather not need one and have one then need one and not have one" is worthless, isn't it?
