I think you'll find soccer or what us normally people call it, football was around alot longer than American football was. Football is the most popular sport in the world wither you like to admit it or not and anyone quo confuses the two deserves a swift kick in the nut sack.

Soccer was first played in 1863.
American football was first played in 1869, just 6 years later.

"alot longer" is stretching it.
