What a pile of hot garbage this movie is.

Acting was HORRIBLE. The crazy eyed village guy at the beginning has a fake beard, was too clean and couldn't act. The cinematography sucked. Why is Paul Gross allowed to make this garbage?

reply

No its not garbage. This is a great movie it depicts the duties of soldiers at war risking their lives on a daily basis and at the same time keeping their morality tuned and serve the civilians trust.

the movie was poorly done. The explosions were hokey, the acting was atrocious. I was embarrassed for Paul Gross watching this. At least get some good actors. 2 hours I'll never get back.

I really liked seeing a Canadian military movie. It was different to grunts getting chewed out by officers, having their mouths called "cock holsters" every time they speak out of place.
In fact when the lead (don't know his name) was pulled aside for fraternisation, I thought he was going to get chewed out, and end up sweeping the sand in the desert or something. Instead they share a cigarette and a laugh, that was pretty good.

I also liked the sniper teams. Small teams of 4/5 like SEALs, taking some awesome shots as we all know the Canadians have some of the best snipers in the world.

The only thing I wasn't sure of, was the night time sniping. I've got a friend who was a Royal Marine sniper. They're pretty much the UK's answer to the SEALs, and their standard training is almost 30 weeks, which is the same as SEALs.
He was a sniper, and sniping at night is just a massive no-no. Muzzle flash gives away position, so I'm not sure if it's just a bad idea, or whether it's not done at all.
But I really enjoyed it. Quality fight scenes, nice not having the high fives and what-not.

Yes it is garbage.

Great movie? Do you know the definition of great? This movie does not depict the realism of military and war. I suggest you watch Generation Kill. It's a mini-series about US Recon Battalion Marines. Some Recon Marines that was actually in that unit were extras on the show. The names of all the characters are actual names of real Recon that served on the 1st Marines Recon. The show has been praised by many other service members to being realistic and not the glamour Hollywood makes it to be. It's as realistic as it gets because it's an actual true story.

I thought this was a very good movie. The story is very credible and Paul Gross' acting was terrific. I didn't know he was such a good actor.

has anyone of you ever played the pathetically bad and cheap computer game counterstrike condition zero: deleted scenes? thats how damn cheap the music and the sound design of this crap movie was.

reply

It wasnt horrible it was just very long drawn out and although the story was told it was just a tad boring - written, directed and starred by the same guy - perhaps he should stick to one as no one does all 3 without compromising one or the other.

This movie looked and felt like one of those pornos that care about the plot and put some effort into it, only in this case they edited all the actual f-ing out. The dialogue was oddly bad in a way that reinforced that, I kept thinking the characters were gonna start fondling and proceed to banging each other. And yes, what the fark was the deal with the magical old man, with his fake beard and obvious wig, and the way he threw back that grenade like a girl? Why do all the Afghans look like polished carpet salesmen? And why does every hoser have a neck tattoo, is that a cornerstone of Canadian culture or something?

It's actually better than that Afghanistan war movie with Mark Wahlberg. It's probably as great as The Beast of War in the early 90's.

You must be Canadian. We get it, Canadians hate Americans. Just make sure you don't go to war with us, you wouldn't stand a chance. Canadian combined military is less than the US Marines, now factor in the Navy, Air Force, Army, and National Guard, that's over 2 million troops. Hell even the civilians are armed, are you armed?

A Japanese general once said that behind every blade of grass is an American with a rifle. Hate us all you want, but you wouldn't want to get into a fight with us.

reply

What's with all the "we" shyte? When and where did you serve? You are comparing an apple and an orange, you do realize that Canada is one tenth of the US population?
