Except Hanks' character really was cast away. And his 'Wilson' didn't fart!

If you can't find anything original in this movie, I don't know what to tell you.

@chamohlamb
Thought the same, but i came across what most likely is a precursor to this movie as there are several elements that are just too alike to ignore - Save the Green Planet! (2003) - a south korean movie. Though as pointed out by others the storyline is clearly inspired by Cast Away (2000).
Swiss army man puts forth the key elements better and does so with an alot better cinematography and editing which makes it stand on it's own though.

Being clear, in exactly where parts of inspiration is from is for me a clear strongpoint.

For me the originality is the approach to madness, there has been few movies (outside horror genre) that shows the person slipping into madness being rational to it's perception - and fewer reaching far enough.

Ignorance is only a bliss if you haven't reached awareness.
My imdb posts are getting altered.

Yeah. Just like Gilligan's Island is just Castaway with jokes instead of a volleyball, and Lost is Castaway with 40 other people instead of a volleyball. No one thinks of anything original these days.

That's how I felt about it, for the first half or so. The main character's full name, wich is revealed at one point, is Hank Thomas (Tom Hanks?)...
But then it even started to feel like "Be Kind Rewind".

I loved it, by the way !
