PATRICK tells LEE...

... "You'd do anything to get rid of me, wouldn't you" right after the lunch with his mom. That kind of came out of nowhere. Sure, LEE had asked GEORGE about it (right in front of PATRICK) but, by that scene, a while had gone by and they had bonded. Not to mention that LEE had made it very clear that he didn't want PATRICK to live with his mother.

Patrick himself had/spoke of thoughts of living with his Mother. I think it's natural to come out as anger/irritation on Patrick's behalf when he finds out his Mother and her home are not the sanctuary he imagined. I think his reaction is more about himself than Lee here. He's understandably disappointed. He surely doesn't really think Lee'd so easily get rid of him... though he does know Lee wants out of this place & Lee has tried to get rid, so.... I think this is more about his own disappointment in how it went though than Lee.

The parallels btwn Lee and his ex sister in law were interesting. We never quite get to see what exactly Lee was angry at her for but we can assume it's years of alcoholism and neglect as a mother. It's interesting how Lee is the one person who is unable and reluctant to forgive her just as he is unable to forgive himself. And after the meeting with her son, we see that she also cannot forgive herself despite her new found life and religious convictions. A past filled with regret and grief is difficult to overcome and impossible for some. There are no easy answers. That's a true reflection of real life.
