I really wanted to like this movie, I really did

I was really excited given the buzz and the talent. I hadn't seen more than one trailer and knew the basic premise. Gotta say it was pretty average, and that's being generous. It was one of the most depressing, two and a half hour long movies I've ever seen.

The movie was so incredibly slow paced and there was no need for it to be over two hours long. The ending wasn't very satisfying and there wasn't a single arc for any of the characters. It would have been a more powerful movie to see Lee pull himself out of depression and find meaning in his life through his nephew rather than go through the movie static.

I loved the performances, especially Affleck and Williams, but that scene between them towards the end felt a little out of place with how they just run into each other. It just feels awkward given what comes before and after.

It's ok. You can't help it if you have bad tastes in movies. There's nothing you can do

reply

Tell me, what did you like about it?

At least he made his ratings public.
You are too insecure to do that because you know your taste sucks lol.

reply

Nah, you have pretty good taste, I checked your ratings lol.
But I can't help but wonder why you rated this 7/10 if you thought it was only average?

Average movie... nothing special. Acting was good, especially Williams

reply

I actually think it WAS special, because of how different it was. The beauty came in the little moments of grace. And the tragedy and poignance was so raw and felt so real. No big, over-the-top acting moments. No car chases, gunfights, kung-fu fights or "You can't handle the truth!" soliloquies. Just simple and raw emotion, with a little bit of heart and hope.

Several truly heartfelt, gut-wrenching scenes that will (should) absolutely move you, and break your heart...and stay with you.

It's not for everyone. But I can't remember the last time a film moved me like this one did.

This right here. Movie was aggressively average, even boring at times. People were steady jocking this when it came out. Doesn't deserve the high praise at all.

I think this is perhaps the best American movie of the past half-decade or so, but no film can please everyone!
