So awful.

What a terrible, piece of s#!t movie about all of the suck-y parts of life shoved in 90 or so minutes. I was bored to tears for most of it, mostly because Casey Affleck is just such a dull human being. Even when he's attempting to emote it falls flat.

How, HOW is this nominated for best picture of the year?!?

Self-Respect and a hymen are better than friends and fun. Love, Mom-Amy, The Big Bang Theory

You just don't get it. The film isabout the struggles of life and depression. Casey Affleck doesn't show much emotion in the film because his character can't.

reply

Emotional restraint may or may not have been correct for this character (I may never know as the remarkably poor dialogue and acting in the opening scenes caused me to bail out quite early), but I have seen Casey Affleck in several films, and unless he chooses roles in a very particular way, his inability to display emotions seems to be congenital. NOT much of an actor.

I always prefer underacting to overacting.

Great acting should be like great plumbing. If you do your job right, nobody notices.

reply

I agree, that's why I think Casey Affleck did a great job and Michelle Williams not so much. She always 'overacts' imo.

I agree. Affleck was excellent and richly deserved the Oscar. He seemed humble and genuinely surprised that he won the Oscar and obviously didn't have a prepared speech. I liked this because I think preparing a speech is somewhat arrogant. If you win, just get up there and talk from the heart and say thank you.
The spontaneous speeches are always the best. Will will Hollywood learn that?

reply

I agree about Michelle Williams, the scene when her character asks Lee to lunch seemed over the top.

reply

His parts in that scene though...damn. Cried hard.

reply

You 'bailed out early' ?

You missed one of the best movies of the decade.
