Movie would've been better if everything was explained SPOILERS

What did the coins and the train have to do with anything? Why was the end table so haunted? Where did the Bye Bye Man and his dog originate? Also, he could've been way creeper looking. And that Sasha chick was annoying and a bad actress to me.

Train made no sense at all. The table and the coins however were part of his presence. The night stand carried his name forward to new people who found it, without that he'd be forgotten. Where they came from, no one knows, I suspect the original book probably covers this but the movie left it out. Cressida Bonas did an okay job of it, can't agree with you there.

They probably explained more about them in the editing from an R/NC-17 to the PG-13.

You might be right about that...

Said the same thing to the girl I went with.. I think there is an origin regarding the train and coins, but got cut off on the editing floor..

Most I can figure, Elliot's said his parents died in a crash. Maybe they died in a train crash.

Maybe they were saving those explanations for the sequel or something (if this movie ever gets a sequel).

The coins and train could have to do with the Ancient Greek tradition of placing coins over the eyes of the dead to pay Charon (the Ferryman that carried the dead on The River Styx to the Underworld). One could say the train was a modern version of the boat on the River Styx. I didn't see the movie, but I saw several interviews with the actors and production crew, director, screenwriter, etc.

The train comes from the original urban legend that the Bye Bye Man rode the train from Louisiana to Chicago killing people along the way and then made his way to Madison, WI when four college students conjured him.

The coin bit was added in by the directors or the writer I think because that's not in the original urban legend.

Bye bye man basically represents the Grim Reaper, his dog is probably a version of Cerberus - old mythological dog of Hades who watches the gate of underworld. Coin is also from a greek mythology (charon ). Train represents the transition from this world to the. beyond. Thus, the symbolism used in this movie is very simple...

Agreed, Cressida Bonas as Sasha was a bad actress. The table was haunted because it had his name written on it. As for the coins, the dog, and the train, here's a deleted scene that explains it here.
