How scary is this film?

Hi All,

I'm not very good with horror films.
The Exorcist and the Shining spooked the *beep* out of me.

I'm planning to watch this sometime soon. How scary is this film? I don't want to be screaming a lot because I have a sore throat from a cold I caught in the office.
I'm taking some Ibruprofen at the moment but should be fine in a week or so.

Many thanks!

If by scary you mean jump scares? Id say 2/10. There's a couple that made all the annoying 12 year olds in the audience scream. Once they finally stopped screaming they just went back to talking loudly with each other until the next jump scare.
But if by scary you mean horror scary? I'd give it a 1/10. It's a typical PG-13 horror movie. No blood, any real violence or anything close to scary appears on screen.

It isn't scary in the slightest. In fact it is utterly laughable.

it had an fairly, suspenseful pace to it, don't think it carried to a pay off ending, though

I wasn't saying blood and gore = scary. I was just saying this is a watered down teen horror movie, which almost always means it relies on cheap jump scares and loud noises to scare the audience.
When someone gets shot in the chest with a shotgun and you see them for 15 seconds afterwords and not a drop of blood is shown it kinda takes me out of the movie. I read this was edited down from R to PG13 and it's pretty obvious thats what they did. They removed anything that belongs in an R rated horror movie, along with anything that might have been considered scary so that little kids can go see, which my screening was about 75% 12 year olds.

I agree in the cheesy moments, but overall I enjoyed, now Hostel which everyone love is just porn with gore and I wasted my 8 dollars on the piece of crap. The Bad Seed is such a great movie (The original) and it doesn't even have jump scare. and The Exorcist (1973) it's my favorite movie, is one that to this day I do not dare to watch alone. But I think The Bye Bye Man overall for PG13 movie is good, of course The Conjuring is better and Lights Out.
