Can someone explain some things about the movie to me?

Spoilers

1. When they were upstairs with the light, why didn't they try to look for other sources of light? Why didn't they try to turn on hallway lights, bedroom lights, find other flashlights, matches, lighters, or more lamps? It doesn't make any sense why they'd rely on that itty bitty lamp without searching for other sources of light.
2. When they were upstairs, why didn't they try to find a way to contact the authorities? Why didn't they search for a cell phone or landline phone, or a computer, or something?
3. Why didn't they ever try to make any weapons? You're being attacked by a ferocious creature and you're not going to try to arm yourself?
4. How is it possible for a desk lamp to make such a high powered beam of light? When her bf was illuminating her from the window, the light was strong like a street lamp. How can a desk lamp make such a powerful beam?
5. When Mark is busting out the tractor lights and she's on the ground, she pulls out a light. If she's had that lighter on her the whole time, why didn't she use it before?

I don't want anyone to tell me she didn't think of these things because she was too frightened. She was extremely coherent and level-headed, actually. Since she was coherent and level-headed enough to formulate escape plans, she should have been level-headed enough to do the things in my questions.

Also, I don't want to hear the "it's a movie" response. If you don't have anything smart to say then get out. People are supposed to criticize movies, both positive and negatively. That's how people know if the story worked or not.

Seriously? You want people to explain things to you, but you want to limit what they can tell you? Dude or Dudette, IT WAS A MOVIE. They need conflict, that's why people don't act completely "Die Hard" in them, so that the movie is 2 hours (or in this case, 90 minutes) long.

And if my answer doesn't satisfy you, well I don't know what more to say.

reply

Wow. A person who can read English but lacks reading comprehension skills. We need more people like you around. But seriously, what the hell does my last paragraph say?

1. The farmer smashed all the overhead lights in the house.

As for the rest, we wondered the same things. All I can think is bad writing; it was a crap fest, after all.

This one was particularly dumb. I know it was an old wreck of a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, but the farmer had a computer. Seems likely he'd also have a telephone, right? So why not try to find it and call for help? The creature, being from the Iron Age and all, obviously didn't know about electricity, or he would have cut off the power at the mains rather than just breaking the light bulbs.("Light bad! Me smash!") Therefore, he also wouldn't know about telephones and would have no reason to try to cut the phone line, either.

Horror movies are full of dumb cliches, and this one is certainly no exception, but I think not searching for a phone where there's bound to be one is really a stupid oversight.

Should have made a torch from the beginning. What an idiot.

a, The owner could have have put an insanely high-powered bulb in there. Not very likely.
b, The camera CCD couldn't handle the contrast (difference in light and dark). So to illuminate the shadows it had to wash out the light, making it appear VERY bright, or much brighter than it really was. This may only be true for some scenes. Note how the flashlight from the phones also seemed incredibly bright.
c. I recall it was a full moon, so maybe allow for the idea that there may already have been some light out there.

...it's just another dumb film, get over it.

They were in a house being attacked by vampires. Pretty sure all logic is out the window at that point
