Chronicle. But with kids instead of teens, trade in the more dramatic sci-fi element for a more subtle art house feel that's slower paced.
Otherwise, yeah, it's the same story.
Glad you said that. I haven't seen the film but I saw Mark Kermode reviewing it earlier, including a fairly long clip. All I was thinking was 'This looks like Chronicle'. Yet Kermode never mentioned it - and he's normally very forthcoming about film similarities.
