My brain made up a better movie

So after glasses-guy had his over-the-top temper tantrum, it occurred to me that it might all be a gag on Harold. Harold has just broken up with his girl, and his friend is trying to cheer him up and get him out of the dumps. Harold is clearly gullible and sort of a loser -- everyone teases him and snaps at him. So they drag him along on this haunted house adventure intending to scare him into being a man.

I think I enjoyed the movie more when I thought it would be a gag on Harold; the other two guys' ridiculous behavior made more sense. But once we had glasses-Guy's POV I knew it was supposed to be real. And that was disappointing.

At least -- and I have seen found footage movies that forgot -- they remembered their original premise of being a film from the FBI.
