Fingersmith

The British version of this film (Fingersmith) is still the masterpiece, I give Park Chan credit for trying tho...this version has an anime feel to it which is also entertaining.

I was frankly disappointed that so much of the book is missing in this adaptation. And then replaced with soft core porn which, frankly, seems archaic in this day and age. I tire of seeing excellent actresses have to strip and do porn scenes that were daring 20 years ago but now are just nothing we haven't seen already 1000 times.

So much of the film was beautifully done. Wonderful production, cinematography, and acting, but for me the whole pervy mad uncle aspect was way overdone and the crime family that the handmaiden came from as described in the book, was a regrettable omission.

So my advice is if you read the book, just know that you'll only see half of it.

Couldn't agree more!! That whole scissoring scene was very unnecessary, hence my comparison to anime (Hentai) It started out as a beautiful movie but took a dark, twisted turn towards the end. I feel like it wasn't made for the female audience just like Blue is the warmest color

I find the love scenes beautiful and exactly like they should be. Hideko had a sexual awakening with Sook-Hee and it shows how powerful their attraction becomes.
There's a very romantic tone from their first scenes together which leads to the climax in part two, when they retell the story.
